U.S. Water Alliance - Water Equity Clearinghouse

The Water Equity Clearinghouse is an online database of organizations working at the intersection of water and equity, and presents emergent practices in equitable water management. The clearinghouse highlights the work of utilities, community-based organizations, government agencies, philanthropic organizations, researchers, and others. Climate mitigation and adaptation is one of the “Issues Addressed” filters that returns a number of organizations involved in climate change planning and resiliency around water resources.

The database allows users to search for promising organizations by focus area, strategies, populations served, location, and more. The database is also searchable by three primary goals or “pillars” for water equity, strategies or “issues addressed” for water equity, and the organizations working to achieve them.

Pillars of Water Equity

The U.S. Water Alliance believes that water equity occurs when all communities achieve the following three pillars of water equity:

  • Have access to safe, clean, affordable drinking water and wastewater services;
  • Share in the economic, social, and environmental benefits of water systems; and
  • Are resilient in the face of floods, drought, and other climate risks.

The U.S. Water Alliance describes itself as the “hub for the one water movement.” “The one water approach views all water - drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, grey water and more- as resources that must be managed holistically and sustainably. Doing so builds strong economies, vibrant communities, and healthy environments.”
