Vermont Governor's Climate Cabinet and State Agency Climate Action Plan (Executive Order 15-12)
The Vermont Governor's Climate Cabinet was established by an Executive Order from Governor Shumlin in December 2012. The Climate Cabinet is charged with providing comprehensive leadership by coordinating climate change efforts, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels, providing outreach and education as well as implementing climate change adaptation efforts across all state agencies and departments.
The Climate Cabinet is comprised of senior government officials including Secretaries of Administration, Agriculture Food and Markets, Commerce and Community Development, and Transportation; the Commissioners of the Departments of Economic, Housing and Community Development, of the Department of Buildings and General Services and the Department of Public Service. The Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) is designated as the lead agency with the ANR Secretary serving as the cabinet chair.
The State Agency Climate Action Plan as described in the E.O. focuses on mitigation efforts related to Agency transportation, energy efficiency, as well as the role of the Dept. of Buildings and General Services in investigating renewable energy options for the state.
This E.O. supercedes E.O. 10-38 (No. 05-11) which was enacted May 17, 2011.
