2007
The 2007 Comprehensive Master Plan establishes priorities for coastal protection in Louisiana, presenting a series of recommended hurricane protection and coastal restoration measures. Maps and explanations of the measures, as well as a management strategy for implementing them are also provided. While emphasizing sustainability of ecosystems, flood protection, and communities, this plan proposes integrated flood control projects and coastal restoration initiatives for the long-term sustainability of both human and natural communities.

On April 30, 2014 Maine addressed the threat of ocean acidification with a new law: 'Resolve, Establishing the Commission to Study the Effects of Coastal and Ocean Acidification and Its Existing and Potential Effects on Species That Are Commercially Harvested and Grown along the Maine Coast. ’ The first of its kind on the East Coast, the law considers the impacts of rising carbon dioxide levels in the ocean on the ecosystem and on commercial shellfish grown and harvested along the Maine coast.

In December 2020, the Maine Climate Council under Governor Janet Mill released Maine Won’t Wait, the four-year climate action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to build community and environmental resilience, and to spur transformational economic growth and opportunity. The Council agreed upon four climate action plan goals to reflect the diverse challenges posed by climate change: reduce Maine’s greenhouse gas emissions; avoid the impacts and costs of inaction; foster economic opportunity and prosperity; and advance equity through Maine’s Climate Response.

In late 2007, then Governor Baldacci asked the University of Maine and its Climate Change Institute to lead a preliminary analysis of the effects of climate change in Maine during the 21st century. This report from the analysis considers past climate change, recent evidence of accelerated rates of change, and the implications of continued climate change in Maine as a result of greenhouse gas emissions and their associated pollutants. The assessment highlights some of the critical climate impacts on various ecosystems and economic sectors in Maine, with the intention to help frame the policy and management discussions on adaptation that are needed, while emphasizing new opportunities that exist for the state.

Quinault Indian Nation (QIN), a federally recognized tribe located in Washington state, is currently implementing a phased relocation plan as part of a managed retreat strategy in response to the impacts of sea-level rise, flooding, and concerns about the increased likelihood of tsunamis and storm surges attributed to climate change. In 2017, QIN adopted the Taholah Village Relocation Master Plan that outlines a vision and development plan for relocating a portion of QIN living in the Lower Village of Taholah to a higher ground location in the Upper Village Relocation Area. The Master Plan contains eleven chapters covering the history and the need to relocate, goals and principles of the plan, and different aspects of the Upper Village blueprint including appropriate community facilities, housing, infrastructure, culture, sustainability, and resilience. It also sets forth implementation steps for the project through phasing, necessary regulatory changes, and funding. QIN developed the Master Plan with significant community input. The community engagement processes and sustainable planning strategies can provide transferable lessons for other state and local jurisdictions considering similar questions of strategic planning for coastal retreat and relocation, even on a smaller scale. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) partnered with The Nature Conservancy and Chesapeake and Coastal Services to conduct a Statewide Coastal Resiliency Assessment. The study identified areas where natural habitats provide the greatest potential hazard risk reduction hazards for Maryland’s coastal communities, and determined priority areas for coastal conservation and restoration activities. Habitats play a large role in risk reduction for coastal community resiliency in Maryland such as greatly reducing the impacts of climate impacted coastal hazards such as sea level rise and storm surge.

Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs: Energy Assistance: The Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) provides bill assistance to low-income households in the State of Maryland to make energy costs more affordable and ensure the stability of home energy services through several programs. The OHEP houses four grants to contribute energy assistance: the Maryland Energy Assistance Program; the Electrical Universal Service Program; the Utility Service Protection Program; and Weatherization and Energy Efficiency Services.

The report summarizes implementation progress of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change policy recommendations as identified in the state's 2008 Climate Action Plan. The Climate Action Plan contains 19 policy recommendations that focus on climate change adaptation, primarily for sea-level rise and coastal storm surge - from both the Mitigation Working Group's (MWG) and the Adaptation Response Working Groups' (ARWG). For each of the recommendations brief updates are provided, including any institutional, regulatory or legislative actions.

A non-profit affordable housing developer, Jubilee Housing, is working to incorporate a “resiliency room” and increase affordable housing by renovating the historic Maycroft Apartments in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D. C. – an area of the District that has been experiencing rapid gentrification. The project will provide affordable housing and will renovate the complex's basement into a resiliency room to provide both emergency and everyday services for residents.
