National Sea Grant College Program (Sea Grant)
The National Sea Grant College Program is a nationwide network (administered through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), of 32 university-based programs that work with coastal communities. Sea Grant engages this network of the nation's top universities in conducting scientific research, education, training, and extension projects designed to foster science-based decisions about the use and conservation of aquatic resources.
Environmental stewardship, long-term economic development and responsible use of America's coastal, ocean, and Great Lakes resources are at the heart of Sea Grant's mission. One of four national strategic priorities through 2013 is to improve the resilience of coastal communities to hazards, including the effects of climate change. Sea Grant plays local and national roles to inform policy and management, help communities prepare for climate impacts, and support economic resilience and opportunity.
