U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP)

The U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) is mandated by the Global Change Research Act of 1990, and  was known as the U.S. Climate Change Science Program from 2002 through 2008. The program is steered by the Subcommittee on Global Change Research under the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, overseen by the Executive Office of the President, and facilitated by an Integration and Coordination Office.

The USGCRP is a multi-agency coordinating body for federal climate change research. 13 federal departments and agencies participate in the program.  The USGCRP engages in a variety of activities aimed to strengthen and strategically direct climate change research in the United States, and improve the flow of that information to policy-makers, federal, state, and local decision-makers, and the public. These activities include international events, large-scale program elements, and smaller thematic interagency working groups.

The advances in climate change research made by the USGCRP have been documented in numerous assessments commissioned by the program, and have played prominent roles in international assessments such as those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This clearinghouse provides links to the U.S. National Assessments and U.S. Regional Assessments as well as to other relevant publications and sites.

USGCRP is part of the interagency initiative that operates the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Program Office and hosted by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information.
