The Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Measure of 2016 (Measure A) supports the protection, enhancement and maintenance of Los Angeles, California’s neighborhood parks, open space, trails, beaches, natural habitat, rivers, streams, and the urban tree canopy - by implementing an annual parcel tax of 1. 5 cents per square foot of development. Measure A is expected to generate approximately $94 million per year for local parks, beaches, and open space areas, replacing expiring dedicated funding from Propositions A of 1992 and 1996.

Wildlife Conservation Society Climate Adaptation Fund
2017
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Climate Adaptation Fund supports one to two-year projects that implement science-driven, on-the-ground actions that assist wildlife and ecosystems to adapt to climate change at a landscape scale. The mission of the Fund is to "increase the pace and scale of climate adaptation for wildlife and ecosystems and the people that value and depend on them. " WCS provides a total of $2. 5 million in grant awards between $50,000 and $250,000 to conservation non-profit organizations each year.

USFWS National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program
January 5, 2017
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program annually provides grants of up to $1 million to coastal and Great Lakes states, as well as U. S. territories to protect, restore and enhance coastal wetland ecosystems and associated uplands, providing long-term conservation benefits to fish and wildlife and their habitats. Over $17 million in total will be awarded by the USFWS to 20 projects in 10 coastal states to protect, restore or enhance more than 13,000 acres of coastal wetlands and adjacent upland habitats under the program.

FHWA Emergency Relief Program and Resilience
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) developed this document to clarify that program funds provided through the Emergency Relief (ER) Program may be used to rebuild more resiliently in ways that will prevent damage from future extreme weather events. The FHWA-ER program provides funding for the repair or reconstruction of Federal-aid highways that have experienced major damage from natural disasters or other externally-caused catastrophic failures.

California Transformative Climate Communities Program

California Assembly Bill 2722 established the Transformative Climate Communities Program, to be administered by the Strategic Growth Council (SGC). The forthcoming Program will accelerate greenhouse gas reduction and advance local climate action in disadvantaged communities through an integrated, community-based approach. The Program intends to help realize the State’s vision of “Vibrant Communities and Landscapes,” demonstrating how meaningful community engagement coupled with strategic investments in transportation, housing, food, energy, natural resources, and waste can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution, while also addressing growing equity issues and enhancing economic opportunity and community resilience.

Resilient Communities Program (NFWF)

Wells Fargo and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) launched the Resilient Communities Program in 2017 to help communities plan for and implement resiliency projects, support green infrastructure, and invest in natural ecosystems. Grants will be offered once a year to support priority projects in states and communities associated with Wells Fargo operations. This four-year initiative is supported through a $10 million contribution from Wells Fargo meant to leverage other private and public funds with an expected total investment of more than $20 million.

Delaware Sustainable Communities Planning Grant Program

Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Division of Energy and Climate is offering Sustainable Communities Planning Grants for municipalities, county governments and their academic and non-profit partners. These competitive grants support planning and climate vulnerability assessment projects that improve a community’s economy, environment and public health. Grants of up to $80,000 are available to counties or towns with populations of 5,000 residents or more, and grants of up to $40,000 are available to towns with populations of fewer than 5,000 residents.

Impact Investing for Coastal Conservation: Bridging the Gap
This paper provides a framework for conservation financing in coastal areas that could leverage private sector interests with conservation needs. A few examples of successfully implemented private investments in conservation initiatives are included. Conservation investing is a subset of impact investing, and is defined as “investments in companies, funds, and organizations with the goal of generating a financial return and beneficial environmental impact. ” The paper describes the opportunities and challenges surrounding using private investment capital for natural and nature-based shoreline management approaches such as habitat restoration, conservation, and coastal resilience strategies.
