Toronto Eco-Roof Incentive Program

The City of Toronto in Ontario, Canada Eco-Roof Incentive Program provides grants to commercial, industrial and institutional property owners to improve the sustainability of Toronto's infrastructure and its resilience to climate change. Financial incentives are provided for the construction of green roofs that support vegetation and cool roofs that reflect the sun's thermal energy. Launched in 2009, the program supports the City's Climate Change Action Plan and complements the City's 'Green Roof Bylaw' and the 'Green Standard' by encouraging owners of existing buildings to retrofit their roofs.

NOAA Habitat Conservation Project Grants
Habitat conservation project grants and cooperative agreements are awarded for habitat conservation activities including coastal and marine habitat restoration and protection. Projects are funded to carry out public policy pertaining to protection and restoration of the nation's wetlands and other coastal habitats including those of the Great Lakes.

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
Administered by FEMA, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP, CFDA Number: 97.039) provides grants to state and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration. HMGP funding is only available to applicants that reside within a Presidentially declared disaster area. The purpose of the HMGP is to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters and to enable mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster.

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials' Climate Change Capacity Building Grants
The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Environmental Health, funds and supports demonstration projects that establish coordinating opportunities for climate change at state and territorial health agencies (STHAs).

Florida's Coastal Partnership Initiative
The Coastal Partnership Initiative (CPI) makes funding available to Florida's coastal counties and municipalities that are required to have a coastal management element in their comprehensive plan. Public colleges and universities, regional planning councils, national estuary programs and nonprofit groups may also apply for CPI funds if an eligible local government agrees to participate as a partner. The Initiative is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) using funding from NOAA.

Massachusetts Coastal Community Resilience Grant Program
The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Coastal Community Resilience Grants Program provides municipalities with financial and technical resources to advance innovative local efforts to plan for and adapt to coastal climate impacts, including sea level rise, storm surge and flooding. In 2018, more than $3. 2 million in funding was awarded to Braintree, Chatham, Chelsea and Everett, Dennis, Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc. , Gloucester, Hull, Ipswich, Kingston, Marion, Mattapoisett, Nantucket, Provincetown, Salem, Wareham and Winthrop.

The city has established more than 120 TIF districts, and has leveraged its public investment to attract over $6 billion in private capital investment in TIF districts over two decades of development.

NOAA Coastal Zone Enhancement Grants (Section 309)
NOAA's Coastal Zone Enhancement Program (CFDA Number: 11. 419) provides formula grants to state and territorial coastal zone management programs to help jurisdictions enhance and improve the management of coastal resources in nine "enhancement areas" (defined below). Funds are provided directly to states that can use those grants to assess their coastal management programs and identify opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of their programs. Grants are used to develop legal and policy changes and cannot be used for capital projects.
