Agricultural Climate Resiliency and Efficiencies (ACRE) Program for Massachusetts

The Agricultural Climate Resiliency & Efficiencies (ACRE) was created as part of the implementation of Governor Baker’s Executive Order 569, which focuses reducing carbon emissions and building a more climate resilient Massachusetts. The program advances that goal - as well as more specific goals identified in the Massachusetts Local Action Food Plan - by providing grants to producers to implement practices that improve their farms’ resiliency. $500,000 in grants have gone to 16 Massachusetts farms to install practices that help mitigate and adapt to climate impacts.

Funding Navigation for California Communities is an online portal for funding opportunities directed at local governments of California. Grants and other funding resources are categorized under seven project types, and those addressing climate adaptation and resiliency are primarily found under the categories of Drinking Water, Parks, Stormwater, and Wastewater Management. Greening the Gateway Cities Program
2018
The Massachusetts Greening the Gateway Cities Program (GGCP) aims to increase tree canopy cover in the state’s Gateway Cities, which are urban centers facing economic and social challenges due to recent losses in industry and manufacturing power. The program is currently operating in 18 residential areas with the goal of covering 5% of each area in new tree canopy cover. This initiative aims to reduce heat stress as well as energy use and cost for Massachusetts residents.

New York State Climate Smart Communities Grant Program
2018
The New York State Climate Smart Communities Grant Program, administered by the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, was established in 2016 and provides a matching grant to towns, villages, counties, and boroughs of New York City to implement projects related to climate change adaptation or mitigation or, more specifically, to work towards Climate Smart Communities Certification by undertaking eligible planning actions. Although all municipalities in the state are eligible to apply for these grants, Climate Smart Communities receive extra points in the application process (dependent on their certification level) in order to financially incentivize participation in the program.

Moody's Environmental Risks: Evaluating the Impact of Climate Change on U.S. State and Local Issuers

This report from Moody's Investor Services discusses potential credit rating impacts from the exposure and vulnerability of U. S. state and local governments to economic losses from climate change. The report notes that without adaptation, state and local governments will face increasing risks risks from severe heat, changing precipitation patterns, and rising sea levels - and that these risks will become more severe over time. The economic impacts of climate change will include property damage, lowered productivity, health impacts, and increasing energy use.

Resilient Communities Program (NFWF)

Wells Fargo and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) launched the Resilient Communities Program in 2017 to help communities plan for and implement resiliency projects, support green infrastructure, and invest in natural ecosystems. Grants will be offered once a year to support priority projects in states and communities associated with Wells Fargo operations. This four-year initiative is supported through a $10 million contribution from Wells Fargo meant to leverage other private and public funds with an expected total investment of more than $20 million.

Delaware Sustainable Communities Planning Grant Program

Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Division of Energy and Climate is offering Sustainable Communities Planning Grants for municipalities, county governments and their academic and non-profit partners. These competitive grants support planning and climate vulnerability assessment projects that improve a community’s economy, environment and public health. Grants of up to $80,000 are available to counties or towns with populations of 5,000 residents or more, and grants of up to $40,000 are available to towns with populations of fewer than 5,000 residents.
