Climate Action through Equity, produced by the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, provides an overview of how equity in Portland and Multnomah County was integrated in the City’s 2015 Climate Action Plan. The case study educates users on city and county initiatives to serve communities of color and low-income populations, what actions the city took to support equity in the 2015 plan, and lessons learned from that process.

PG&E Better Together Resilient Communities Grant Program

March 1, 2018

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) Better Together Resilient Communities grant program funds initiatives to help California communities better prepare for, withstand, and recover from extreme weather events and other risks related to climate change. PG&E is investing $2 million over five years in shareholder-funded grants.  In 2018, PG&E focused on projects to help communities prepare for increased frequency and severity of extreme heat events, and the 2019 Resilient Communities grant program will focus on wildfire risk.

Hoboken, New Jersey Green Infrastructure Strategic Plan

October 2013

The City of Hoboken, New Jersey published its Green Infrastructure Strategic Plan in October 2013 to create a framework for city-wide green infrastructure investments as a mechanism for improving storm water management, controlling flooding, and preparing for future climate change. It also encourages policy changes, such as zoning requirements and incentives, pilot projects, and plans for public lands and rights-of-way.

Adaptation Toolkit: Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Land Use

The Adaptation Tool Kit explores 18 different land-use tools that can be used to preemptively respond to the threats posed by sea-level rise to both public and private coastal development and infrastructure, and strives to assist governments in determining which tools to employ to meet their unique socio-economic and political contexts.

Toward Climate Resilience: A Framework and Principles for Science-Based Adaptation

Climate Change Adaptation in the Water Supply Sector - New Jersey

Game of Floods

May 2015

The County of Marin, California's “Game of Floods” is an interactive game on sea level rise climate adaptation for Marin and the San Francisco Bay Area. The game is a model for public engagement and education on coastal adaptation - with information on climate impacts and adaptation options, encouraging discussions on the benefits and tradeoffs of adaptation measures.

Developing Urban Climate Adaptation Indicators

2016

The Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) in partnership with the Institute for Sustainable Communities evaluated seven existing sets of climate indicators to determine if any of these frameworks could be adapted to serve city-level needs for evaluating and reporting progress on climate adaptation goals.  This report summarizes their assessment.  They determined that none of the existing frameworks serve the needs of cities perfectly, but many offer insights that can guide USDN members as they develop their own sets of indicators.
