Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Climate Change Adaptation Framework

May 31, 2013

This report from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) addresses climate change impacts on four natural resource sectors including wildlife, fisheries, forestry, and water resources.  After detailing climate impacts on each sector, a strategic climate adaptation framework is proposed for continued climate change vulnerability assessment and action planning.

Nevada Wildlife Action Plan

March 1, 2013

Developed by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), Nevada’s State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) revision was published in 2013. The revision was completed to incorporate the potential impacts of emerging and expanding stressors - including climate change - on the state’s fish and wildlife species, and habitats in greatest need of conservation.

Arizona Wildlife Action Plan 2012-2022

May 16, 2012

Congress charged each state and territory with developing a Wildlife Action Plan in order to receive funds through the Wildlife Conservation and Restoration Program and the State Wildlife Grants Program. These proactive plans, known also as “Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategies,” assess the health of each state’s wildlife and habitats, identify the problems they face, and outline the actions that are needed to conserve them over the long term.

Best Practices for State Wildlife Action Plans - Voluntary Guidance to States for Revision and Implementation

November 2012

In 2005, Congress mandated that state fish and wildlife agencies develop State Wildlife Action Plans (SWAPs) that identified the species and habitats in greatest conservation need, key threats, and recommended actions - in order to receive federal funding through the State and Tribal Wildlife Grants Program. The Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies prepared a report with guidance focused on integrating climate change adaptation planning into SWAPs in 2009 - Voluntary Guidance for States to Incorporate Climate Change into State Wildlife Action Plans and Other Management Plans.

National Park Service Climate Change Action Plan 2012 - 2014

November 2012

The National Park Service (NPS) Climate Change Action Plan provides guidance to help park managers and staff electively plan for and respond to current and future climate change effects on national park lands. Following on the Climate Change Response Strategy, released in 2010, the Action Plan articulates a set of high priority no-regrets actions the NPS is undertaking, or was committed to undertake, by 2014.

Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Coastal and Inland Wetlands in the State of Michigan

September 2012

The Association of State Wetland Managers developed this white paper on climate change projections and adaptation recommendations for Michigan wetlands for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. The report describes the natural capital offered by wetlands through ecological services, details the climate change impacts on these services, and offers strategies to use wetlands as tools for climate mitigation and adaptation.

Considering Climate Change in Florida’s State Wildlife Action Planning: A Spatial Resilience Planning Approach

2011

Conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and commissioned by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), this study piloted a new approach to incorporating climate change into wildlife conservation planning through a "spatial resilience planning" method. The method was tested, and recommendations developed, through a series of workshops with Florida species experts and wildlife managers that focused first on revising impact assessments for each species. Priority management actions and spatially specific planning options were then developed for each species under various climate change scenarios.
