Global Climate Change and Wildlife
February 6, 2007
This 2007 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report for Congress addresses three topics: climate change effects on wildlife, the ability for wildlife to adapt to climate change, and policy implications. This high-level report identifies potential legislative implications that could result from climate change. For example, wildlife laws and management plans developed with an understanding of the life history, distribution, and habitat needs of species may warrant assessments to see if they function as desired under projected climate conditions.

Climate Change and Interacting Stressors: Implications for Coral Reef Management in the American Samoa
June 2007
This report focuses on the reefs of American Samoa as a case study for how managers can approach assessments of reef vulnerabilities to climate change and interacting stressors, identification of adaptive management strategies in response, and integration of management options with existing protocol.

Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Habitats in the Pacific Northwest: An Analysis for Puget Sound, Southwestern Washington, and Northwestern Oregon
July 2007
This report, by the National Wildlife Federation, documents results from a study on the projected impacts of sea-level rise to key coastal habitats in the Pacific Northwest. The study modeled sea-level rise up to 2 meters, based on input from prior studies, and examined its effects including the inundation of estuarine beaches, loss of tidal flats and marshes, and the inundation of inland swamps. The report also provides a brief description of how these effects will impact wildlife. Finally, the report makes one broad recommendation for planners to account for sea-level rise in their habitat restoration projects.

Unnatural Disaster: Global Warming and Our National Parks
July 11, 2007
The National Parks Conservation Association, (NPCA) report, "Unnatural Disaster," demonstrates the impacts of climate change by highlighting anticipated effects U.S. national parks. It offers recommended actions for federal, state, and local governments, along with individuals, to slow or stop the damage from climate change on national parks.

Climate Change Impacts on Forestry
August 16, 2007
Changing temperature and precipitation patterns and increasing concentrations of atmospheric CO2 are likely to drive significant changes in natural and modified forests. This article provides a scientific assessment of the impacts of climate change on forests worldwide giving significant attention to forests in the U. S. This review is focused on publications that discuss the changes in commercial forestry, excluding the ecosystem functions of forests and non-timber forest products. The report concentrates on potential direct and indirect impacts of climate change on the forest industry, including economic impacts, the projections of future trends in commercial forestry, the possible role of biofuels, and changes in supply and demand.

The Importance of Climate Change for Future Wildfire Scenarios in the Western United States
December 2007
This report reviews current and projected climate variables that may affect the frequency and severity of wildfires in the Western U. S. for the 21st century. It is one of four case studies in an overall report, titled "Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States," that examines impacts of particular interest to different regions of the U. S. This section summarizes projections for the 21st century from vegetation models that integrate knowledge of past fire occurrence to simulate changes in fire patterns and their effect on carbon sequestration in western states.

Assessing the Effects of Climate Change on Aquatic Invasive Species
2008
This report presents a conceptual framework and review of the interactive effects of climate change and invasive species in freshwater ecosystems. It explains the complex interactions between climate change and invasive species that will influence how aquatic ecosystems and their biota will respond to fluctuating environmental conditions.

Preparing Oregon's Fish, Wildlife, and Habitats for Future Climate Change: A Guide for State Adaptation Efforts
2008
Prepared by the Oregon Global Warming Commission's Fish and Wildlife Adaptation Subcommittee, this report outlines actions needed to better prepare natural systems in the state for climate change, with a specific focus on the management of fish and wildlife populations and their habitats. It reviews the state of knowledge about climate change relating to fish and wildlife populations, and it provides policy recommendations and research priorities for building a state fish and wildlife adaptation strategy.
