Texas 2017 Coastal Resiliency Master Plan
March 2017
From the Texas General Land Office (GLO), the Coastal Resiliency Master Plan was developed to guide future management of the state’s coastline in support of sustaining resilient local communities and coastal ecosystems. Climate impacts and coastal hazards including coastal erosion, sea level rise, coastal storm surge, habitat loss and degradation, and water quality decline are becoming more severe in Texas - and the GLO established a series of Resiliency Strategies as presented in the plan to address these hazards in a system-wide approach.

Sea Level Rise Adaptation Guide - Virginia
This comprehensive, web-based guide from Wetlands Watch compiles sea level rise adaptation resources for local governments in coastal Virginia. The guide includes numerous case studies, both from Virginia and other coastal communities of the United States. It also highlights funding opportunities, costs and benefits of different approaches to adaptation, flags adaptation approaches eligible for receiving credit through the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System, and explores means of public engagement.

Roadmap to Support Local Climate Resilience: Lessons from the Rising Tides Summit
December 2016
The World Resource Institute released a report discussing actions that the federal government can take to promote local resilience initiatives on December 15, 2016. The report describes the federal actions that have been taken to promote state and local resilience initiatives by the Obama administration and describes ways that the new administration can build upon and enhance these efforts. The report also includes case studies from around the country about ways that cities, states and tribal governments are preparing for the impacts of climate change.

New Hampshire Coastal Risk and Hazards Commission Final Report: Preparing New Hampshire for Projected Storm Surge, Sea-Level Rise and Extreme Precipitation

Managing the Retreat from Rising Seas: Lessons and Tools from 17 Case Studies

This report, produced by the Georgetown Climate Center, features 17 case studies about how states, local governments, and communities across the country are approaching questions about managed retreat. Together, the case studies highlight how different types of legal and policy tools are being considered and implemented across a range of jurisdictions — from urban, suburban, and rural to riverine and coastal — to help support new and ongoing discussions on the subject. These case studies are intended to provide transferable lessons and potential management practices for coastal state and local policymakers evaluating managed retreat as one part of a strategy to adapt to climate change on the coast. The case studies in this report were informed by policymakers, practitioners, and community members leading, engaging in, or participating in the work presented in this report. This report was written to support Georgetown Climate Center’s Managed Retreat Toolkit, which also includes additional case study examples and a deeper exploration of specific legal and policy tools for use by state and local decisionmakers, climate adaptation practitioners, and planners.

California Sea-Level Rise Guidance - 2018 Update

The Ocean Protection Council’s 2018 update of the California Sea-Level Rise Guidance is designed in support of state agencies and local governments preparation for and adaption to sea-level rise (SLR). The report includes a step-by-step approach to SLR risk analysis, and incorporating these projections into planning, permitting, and investment decisions. Recommended adaptation strategies are given for priorities such as bolstering the resilience vulnerable communities and coastal habitats, and incorporating climate change impacts into project design and coastal planning.

Louisiana 2017 Coastal Master Plan
June 2, 2017
In June 2017, the Louisiana State Legislature unanimously approved the state’s 2017 Coastal Master Plan, which updates the state’s 2012 plan. The Coastal Master Plan provides a 50-year blueprint for directing Louisiana’s investments, regulations, and programs in coastal restoration, resilience, and protection. The plan recommends 124 projects to restore coastal ecosystems, build flood control structures, and enhance land-use policies to reduce flood risks in coastal Louisiana communities and to enhance coastal economies and ecosystems.

Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Study for the City of Los Angeles, California
December 2013
From the University of Southern California (USC) Sea Grant Program, this vulnerability assessment is a summary of initial research on the potential impacts of sea level rise on Los Angeles’s resources and population, coastal and shoreline assets. The report contains the findings of a coastal vulnerabilities study, as well as the results of physical, social and economic vulnerability assessment studies that were commissioned by the City and USC Sea Grant. In the final section, a suite of adaptation measures for sea level rise is provided, along with several recommendations for moving forward.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire Coastal Resilience Initiative: Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan

The City of Portsmouth, New Hampshire Coastal Resilience Initiative (CRI) was established to assess the potential local impacts from climate change for the state's "Seacoast" region, and to initiate adaptation planning. Prepared for the CRI by a team of researchers from the University of New Hampshire and the Rockingham Planning Commission, a detailed report provides an overview of the projected climate vulnerability of Portsmouth’s public and private assets. The report includes an assessment for climate change impacts on critical infrastructure and facilities, public health and coastal wetlands, and includes adaptive strategies for each of these sectors.
