Green Infrastructure Techniques for Resilience of the Oregon Coast Highway

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) green infrastructure solutions for resilience documented in this report are the result of a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored pilot project. ODOT analyzed how green infrastructure can help protect the Oregon Coast Highway (US 101) from the impacts of extreme storms and coastal bluff erosion. Through this study ODOT explored the use of nature-based design solutions to protect coastal transportation infrastructure from these climate enhanced impacts.

Coast Resilience Solutions for East Boston and Charlestown, Massachusetts
October 2017
East Boston and Charlestown, Massachusetts are coastal communities that face significant vulnerability to sea-level rise and coastal flooding. Created with the support of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Barr Foundation, this report describes local climate risks, and provides short- and long-term resilience strategies for these areas. This is the first neighborhood coastal resilience plan to be implemented from the Climate Ready Boston plan and initiative.

Bayside Adapts Initiative - Portland, Maine
2017
The City of Portland, Maine created the Bayside Adapts initiative to work with community members and organizations to adapt the Bayside neighborhood of downtown Portland to climate change impacts. The initiative includes two completed projects - the Bayside Adapts Design Challenge and the Sewer and Stormwater System Data Gap Analysis - which address the impacts of sea level rise, storm surges, and increased intense rainfall events in Bayside.

Mission Creek Sea Level Rise Adaptation Study - San Francisco, California

This report presents a high-level vulnerability assessment along with seven adaptation design concepts for Mission Creek and the Mission Bay neighborhood adjacent to the San Francisco Bay in San Francisco, California. This adaptation study seeks to inform sea level rise resilient redevelopment in Mission Bay - one of the largest redevelopment projects in the city of San Francisco. Though focused around Mission Creek, the process and design ideas detailed in this report can be replicated in other parts of the Bay Area.

New Jersey Resilient Coastal Communities Initiative: Case Studies
2015
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Coastal Management Program developed the Resilient Coastal Communities Initiative (RCCI) to provide New Jersey’s coastal communities with climate impact assessments, adaptation planning assistance and technical support. The RCCI created a standardized vulnerability assessment tool as well as a self-assessment for municipalities to connect preparedness and planning to adaptation opportunities. The RCCI also provides policy, regulatory, and management recommendations for building resilience.

Sea-Level Rise Adaptation Financing at the Local Level in Florida

This white paper addresses multiple existing potential sources of revenue that local governments could use to pay for sea-level rise (SLR) adaptation in Florida. Specifically, analysis is provided for the use of Ad Valorem Taxes, Special Assessments and Municipal Service Benefit Units, Local Option Tourist Development Tax, Stormwater and Drainage Fees, Bonds, and Special Districts as funding mechanisms.

Tracking Coastal Adaptation is a policy brief from the UCLA Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment regarding A.
