State of Illinois Drought Preparedness and Response Plan

October 12, 2011

The State Water Task Force is an interagency group that was assembled in 1980 to guide policy decisions related to water issues, and to prepare a State Water Plan for Illinois.  The Task Force updates Illinois’ 1983 Drought Contingency Plan with this Drought Preparedness and Response Plan - continuing to provide local and state officials and the public with information on water supply issues, and key considerations for drought preparedness. This plan was developed from pilot regional water supply assessments and planning projects.

Decision Support Planning Methods: Incorporating Climate Change Uncertainties into Water Planning

January 2010

The Water Utility Climate Alliance (WUCA) developed this white paper to present multiple-outcome planning techniques to water utilities interested in incorporating climate change into their planning. Many water utilities currently are engaged in, or considering, vulnerability assessments and will be seeking guidance on how to incorporate the large range of new information into their planning. This white paper is intended to guide those wanting to move forward with the adaptation process.

Southeast Florida's Resilient Water Resources - Adaptation to Sea Level Rise and Other Impacts of Climate Change

November 15, 2009

This report examines how, and to what extent, sea-level rise and other climate change impacts are likely to influence Southeast Florida’s water supply, wastewater reuse alternatives, and ground and surface waters.   Engineering options and management strategies for enhancing the resilience of the region’s water systems are described in five areas: 1) conservation, 2) protection of existing sources, 3) development of alternative water sources, 4) reclamation and reuse of treated wastewater, and 5) storm water management.

Climate Change and Water Resources Management - A Federal Perspective: U.S. Geological Survey Circular 1331

2009

This interagency report details a methodology to improve water management in a changing climate, with applicability to federal, state and local water resource managers. Three core areas discussed include: 1) tracking climate change impacts (e. g. monitoring networks, trend analysis); 2) anticipating impacts for decision making in long-range planning (e. g. modeling approaches, futures scenario planning, incorporating climate projections in current plans); and 3) responding with adaptation options (e.

Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future: Next Steps

June 2008

This report, along with the 2006 report, "Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future," and the 2010 report, "Water Needs and Strategies for a Sustainable Future: 2010 Progress Report," include consensus recommendations for how the Western states can work with federal, local, and private sector partners to address the challenges of over-appropriated watersheds, population growth, land use changes, water needs for in-stream uses, and of water supply and water management strategies in general.

City of New York Climate Change Assessment and Action Plan (NYC Department of Environmental Protection)

May 2008

This report summarizes analysis and actions that address New York City's drinking water delivery, storm water management, and waste water treatment systems. It presents the steps that the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has taken over the last four years (2004-2008) to address climate change, including efforts to assess the impacts of climate change on NYC's water systems, and identifies opportunities for meaningful changes to water management. City of Tucson, Arizona 2008 Update to Water Plan: 2000-2050

2008

Tucson, Arizona's Water Plan: 2000-2050 was issued by the City of Tucson's Water Department (Tucson Water) in 2004. In this 2008 update, the substantive issues and challenges to ensuring a secure water future remain largely the same (they are detailed in the 2004 Water Plan). However, the planning time frames within which to address these challenges have changed and are discussed in this update. This update also accounts for revised population projections that have since been developed, an increase in the city's Central Arizona Project allocation, and changed planning assumptions and priorities that evolved in the last three years.
