Capital Region Business Resiliency Initiative and Toolkit (Sacramento, California)

The Business Resiliency Initiative (BRI) was launched in the Sacramento Capital Region of California to increase awareness and preparedness for continuity risks faced by small and medium businesses. The Initiative aims to minimize the impacts of an economic crisis potentially caused by unforeseen disaster - recognizing the increase in frequency and severity of extreme weather events and climate change related impacts such as fire, flood, drought and storms. The project is built around designing an effective regional resiliency framework that can be replicated across the country.

Convention on Biological Diversity Climate Change Adaptation Database

From the Convention on Biological Diversity, this database provides a web-based tool for guidance on the integration of biodiversity within adaptation planning. The website includes vulnerability studies, threat studies, assessment tools, case studies, and monitoring tools related to adaptation planning for ecosystems. A table of adaptation options is provided that applies a ranking system of "adverse" to "neutral" to "positive" in terms of the impact of adaptation activities on ecosystems and the services they provide.

AdaptNY

AdaptNY is a digital journalism project at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. The project uses innovative social networking and crowd sourcing to provide information about climate change. The project seeks to improve engagement over the issue of adaptation in NYC though a wide range of existing tools and techniques, from expansive curation to data journalism, mapping, and other original interactive and multimedia storytelling techniques. This digital-centered approach is supplemented by face-to-face workshopping hosted by CUNY and other news media partners.

Alaska Climate Research Center

The primary mission of this center is to respond to inquiries concerning the meteorology and climatology of Alaska from public, private, and government agencies, and from researchers around the world. Most of the climatological data available for Alaska has been accumulated in Fairbanks and by the state climatologist in Anchorage at the Alaska State Climate Center. This Research Center archives digital climate records, develops climate statistics, and writes monthly weather summaries, which are published in several newspapers around the state and in Weatherwise magazine.

Alaska Climate Research Center

The Alaska State Climate Center (ASCC) provides climatological information and and official weather data to the public.   The Center is operated by the Alaska State Climatologist, Dr. Peter Olsson and the ASCC staff on the main campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). The Climate Center is a component of UAA's Environment and Natural Resources Institute (ENRI) which conducts research in high-latitude bio- and geosciences. The ASCC works closely with the federal, state, regional and local agencies who are responsible for data collection/stewardship to provide their clients with the highest quality and most up-to-date data possible.

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is a not-for-profit tribal health organization managed by Alaska Native tribal governments and their regional health organizations. The Consortium was created in 1997 to provide statewide Native health services.

Alaska Sea Grant supports marine and coastal research, provides education and extension services, distributes information about Alaska's seas and coasts, and provides funding to scientific researchers and graduate students. Their Marine Advisory Program is for fishermen, boat operators, coastal residents, tour guides, the seafood industry, and others who make a living from or enjoy the waters of Alaska. This program produces and distributes a variety of publications for the general public, K-12 educators, fishermen, and others.

It is the role of the Alabama Office of State Climatology to provide weather and climate information to the public and private interests to improve decision making activities that affect environmental quality and the economic efficiency of the State. Activities include providing specific weather data for the State and for the world, developing plans to mitigate the economic impacts of weather and climate variability, and providing consultation on the use, interpretation and availability of weather and climate information.
