FEMA Severe Repetitive Loss Program

The Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) grant program provides funding to states, territories, and local and federally-recognized Indian tribal governments to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage to severe repetitive loss (SRL) of structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Eligible activities under this program include: acquisition and relocation of at-risk structures and the conversion of property to open space; elevation of existing structures to the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) or an ABFE Advisory Base Flood Elevation (ABFE) or higher (for the SRL program Mitigation Reconstruction is only permitted when traditional elevation cannot be implemented); minor physical localized flood control projects; and dry-flood proofing (historic properties only).

Santa Clara Valley Water District Climate Change Portal

This web portal allows users to search for reports and other technical literature on the subject of climate change. Although focused on the Santa Clara Valley in California, the portal draws from state, local, and national reports from across the country and is thus useful to state and local governments across the country. Users can search for reports based on topics (including adaptation), date, and keyword. There are also special links to reports and websites on sea-level rise, groundwater, and climate change.

NOAA Sea Level Rise Viewer

This online mapping tool, hosted by the NOAA Coastal Services Center's Digital Coast, allows users to observe the effects of sea level rise on the coast. Being able to visualize potential impacts from sea level rise can be a powerful teaching and planning tool, and the Sea Level Rise Viewer brings this capability to coastal communities.

The Transportation Research Board's (TRB) Research In Progress (RiP) Database and data-entry system allows users in the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT), state DOTs, University Transportation Centers (UTCs) and other USDOT-funded universities to add, modify, and delete information on their current research projects. Global Change Biology (GCB) publishes research related to the interface between all aspects of current environmental change and biological systems, including rising tropospheric GHG concentrations, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and eutrophication.   Studies may be experimental, observational or theoretical, and may concern aquatic or terrestrial and managed or natural environments.   GCB concentrates on primary research articles, but operates a flexible policy regarding other submissions, which include Technical Papers, Mini-Reviews and Opinion Articles.

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

Administered by FEMA, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP, CFDA Number: 97. 039) provides grants to state and local governments to implement long-term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration.  HMGP funding is only available to applicants that reside within a Presidentially declared disaster area.   The purpose of the HMGP is to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters and to enable mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster Purpose: The program’s purpose is to provide funding to states and communities to implement activities that will help them reduce risks of damage and loss of life and property from future natural disasters and hazards.
