Washington Coastal Resilience Project

2019

The Washington Coastal Resilience Project (WCRP), a partnership between the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group, Washington Sea Grant, the Department of Ecology, the Nature Conservancy, and others, produced resources and tools to increase the capacity of communities in Washington state to prepare for sea-level rise. The materials generated through the project include featured data visualizations, tutorials, and guidelines for planning, all of which are designed to better enable the integration of sea-level rise into local planning and investment decisions.

Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant

The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) provides research, education and outreach to coastal communities to help secure healthy coastal environments and economies. IISG brings together scientists, educators, policy makers, community decision makers, outreach specialists, business leaders, and the general public to focus on coastal issues in the southern Lake Michigan region - 104 miles of heavily urbanized and industrialized shoreline in Illinois and Indiana. IISG's  program addresses critical issues including aquaculture, aquatic invasive species, climate change, coastal restoration, fish consumption, great lakes health, land use planning, pharmaceuticals, water quality, and water supply.

Institute for Sustainable Communities

The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is an international nonprofit organization specializing in helping communities, government agencies, NGOs, and businesses accomplish their environmental, economic and social goals - with a particular focus on resource efficiency, governance, and climate mitigation and adaptation. ISC’s programs facilitate peer learning and engagement among local leaders charged with the work of making their communities more sustainable. In the U.S., ISC’s flagship program is the Sustainable Communities Leadership Academy (SCLA), which uses intensive peer-learning workshops to share best practices and accelerate learning on such topics as low-carbon transportation, food systems, adaptation and resilience, green/ local economy, and energy efficiency. ISC also provides implementation support to the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact - a regional collaborative of four counties and 108 municipalities that are working across jurisdictional lines to both reduce emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

The Gulf Coast Prairie Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) is one of 21 LCCs established by Department of Interior Secretarial Order No. 3289, which focus on on-the-ground strategic conservation efforts at the landscape level. LCCs are management-science partnerships that inform integrated resource-management actions addressing climate change and other stressors within and across landscapes, linking science and conservation delivery. LCCs are management-science partnerships that inform integrated resource-management actions addressing climate change and other stressors within and across landscapes. As of 2020, the Southern Rockies LCC is no longer active.

BoCo Strong is a community resilience-building initiative that was created in the wake of the 2013 flood in Boulder County, Colorado. BoCo Strong focuses on strengthening networks and connections across governmental, geographic, social, economic, and cultural boundaries to help all the residents of Boulder County connect to the resources that they need to thrive in the face of shocks and stressors. BoCo Strong's Resilience Network includes civic, non-profit, private, faith-based, emergency management, and government representatives.

California Climate Change Center (CCCC)

The California Energy Commission’s Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program established the California Climate Change Center (CCCC) in 2003 to document climate change research relevant to the state. The Center was the first state-funded climate change research program in the nation. Its goal was to enhance national and international studies, generating new information that can be used to shape California’s climate change policy. This center operated as a virtual organization with core research activities at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of California, San Diego, complemented by efforts at other research institutions.
