The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a Global Change Research Program, an assessment-oriented program with primary emphasis on understanding the potential consequences of climate variability and change on human health, ecosystems, and socioeconomic systems in the U. S. EPA’s research on global change has two major areas of emphasis: air quality and water quality/aquatic ecosystems. Research is also conducted to support understanding of the human health impacts from global change.
