Tribal Climate Adaptation Guidebook

November 2018

Created by the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute with support from Adaptation International, this guidebook provides a climate change adaptation planning framework for tribal communities. The report offers a stepwise framework on adaptation planning, and over 30 case studies of tribes already in the adaptation process. It identifies opportunities for working with both Traditional Knowledges (TKs) and western science, and is designed to be useful for tribes at any stage of adaptation planning.

Virginia Beach Sea Level Rise Policy Response Report

December 2019

In 2019, the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia released its Sea Level Rise Policy Response Report which identifies climate adaptation strategies, objectives, and potential legal and policy actions it could adopt to reduce Virginia Beach’s short- and long-term flood risk. The flood issues in Virginia Beach are multifaceted and the City is considering a range of adaptation responses — from engineering and planning to regulations and market-based tools — with the aim of pursuing a long-term, comprehensive approach.

New York State Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (SB S6599)

July 18, 2019

Passed in July of 2019, New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) (Senate Bill S6599) commits the State of New York to implementing several integrated climate adaptation planning and climate justice goals. In addition to aggressive climate mitigation goals — including zero GHG emissions by 2050 and 100% renewable electricity usage by 2040 — the Act aims to address adaptation and resilience across state programming, land use planning, and local government support.

New York State Climate Leadership Coordinator Services

May 2021

Beginning in 2021, the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) is administering the New York State Climate Leadership Coordinator Services. The Climate Leadership Coordinators program is a $3. 5-million initiative to select relevant organizations as contractors to provide technical assistance to local municipalities on climate change adaptation and mitigation projects. Selected contractors will work in one of three territories in New York 一 Western, Eastern, and Downstate territories 一 and will help local governments and communities with “outreach, education, planning, capacity-building, and assistance with project implementation.
