The Heat is On: Climate Change and Heatwaves in the Midwest
December 2007
This paper from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (formerly the Pew Center on Global Climate Change) reviews the projected intensity and frequency of heat waves in the Midwestern United States for the 21st century, potential public health ramifications and related adaptation options. It is one of four case studies in an overall report, "Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States," that examines the impacts of particular interest to different regions of the U.

Climate Change and Land Use in Florida: Interdependencies and Opportunities
June 30, 2007
This report outlines the components of a sample state climate action plan as they relate to land use, including mitigation and adaptation options. The plan addresses enhanced resiliency to climate impacts related to land use in Florida, and the development of the capacity to participate in carbon markets and support economic development of the state. Climate projections for Florida are detailed, with specific attention to drought and the related impacts on agriculture, sea-level rise, and hurricanes.

Porous Asphalt Study: “Effect of Road Shoulder Treatments on Highway Runoff Quality and Quantity”
July 1997
The Washington State Transportation Center (TRAC) studied the effectiveness of porous asphalt road shoulder treatments at reducing the quantity and improving the quality of highway stormwater runoff, compared to traditional asphalt and gravel. Out of the three treatments tested, the porous asphalt shoulders produced both the lowest volume of runoff and runoff with the lowest concentration of pollutants. The report suggests that although porous asphalt may have higher installation costs than traditional asphalt, the use of porous asphalt road shoulders may have long-term economic benefits along with safety and environmental advantages.

National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)
The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) provides the university science and teaching community with the tools, facilities, and support required to perform innovative research. Through NCAR, scientists gain access to high-performance computational and observational facilities, such as 'supercomputers', aircraft and radar - resources researchers need to improve human understanding of atmospheric and Earth system processes. NCAR and university scientists work together on research topics in atmospheric chemistry, climate, cloud physics and storms, weather hazards to aviation, and interactions between the sun and Earth.

Nevada Climate Office
Nevada's State Climatologist collects and interprets Nevada's climate data and shares this analysis with interested stakeholders including the general public. The state climatologist operates from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Organization
Utah Climate Center
The mission of the Utah Climate Center (UCC) is to facilitate access to climate data and information, and to use expertise in atmospheric science to interpret climate information in an accurate and innovative fashion for the public. The mission includes the design of new products to meet present and future needs of agriculture, natural resources, government, industry, tourism, and educational organizations in Utah and the intermountain region.

USGS National Wildlife Health Center
The National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) is a science center within the United States Geological Survey (USGS), dedicated to assessing the impact of disease on wildlife and to identifying the role of various pathogens in contributing to wildlife losses. With climate change, the distribution and incidence of diseases and pathogens, such as lyme disease and west nile virus, are projected to grow.

Community Resource Inventory - South Carolina
A community resource inventory is an online mapping atlas of the natural and cultural resources in a community, along with human dimensions information. The human dimensions information includes land parcels, urban areas, and streets and highways. For South Carolina, the Community Resource Inventory-South Carolina (CRI-SC) tool presents these data in an online map for users without traditional geographic information system capabilities. Having a detailed set of inventory maps can assist those who are interested in planning for the effects of sea-level rise in South Carolina.

Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB)
The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) was created more than 75 years ago to provide policy direction on water issues. The agency maintains expertise in a broad range of programs and provides technical assistance to further the utilization of Colorado's waters. The CWCB's responsibilities range from protecting Colorado's streams and lakes to water conservation, flood mitigation, watershed protection, stream restoration, drought planning, water supply planning, and water project financing.
