Baltimore, Maryland 2018 Disaster Preparedness and Planning Project (DP3)

The City of Baltimore, Maryland Disaster Preparedness and Planning Project (DP3) was first completed in 2013 and has been updated in 2018, to reflect the city’s commitment to reduce impact from current and future natural hazards, including climate change. Entitled a "combined all-hazard mitigation and climate adaptation plan," the 2018 DP3 identifies Baltimore's vulnerabilities to hazards including coastal storms, flooding, extreme heat, and high winds. The plan focuses on developing strategies that will reduce or eliminate loss of life and property damage within priority urban sectors of Infrastructure, Buildings, Natural Systems, and Public Services.

Columbus, Ohio Climate Adaptation Plan

The City of Columbus, Ohio Climate Adaptation Plan offers recommended actions that can be taken to help Columbus and central Ohio prepare for and adapt to climate change. Developed by a task force of researchers from the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center at the Ohio State University, the plan is designed to support Columbus city government, regional organizations, and residents in building a climate resilient community.

Eye of the Storm: Report of the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas

December 13, 2018

The Governor’s Commission to Rebuild Texas was established just after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Gulf Coast region of the state in August 2017. Governor Abbott directed the commission to determine ways to improve the process of disaster response and to develop strategies for protecting the region against future storms. The Commission’s report details the magnitude and impacts of Harvey; assesses the federal, state and local response to the disaster; and offers recommendations on how Texas can better prepare for future disasters.

Tribal Climate Adaptation Guidebook

November 2018

Created by the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute with support from Adaptation International, this guidebook provides a climate change adaptation planning framework for tribal communities. The report offers a stepwise framework on adaptation planning, and over 30 case studies of tribes already in the adaptation process. It identifies opportunities for working with both Traditional Knowledges (TKs) and western science, and is designed to be useful for tribes at any stage of adaptation planning.

Triangle Regional Resilience Partnership Resilience Assessment

November 2018

The Triangle Regional Resiliency Partnership (TRRP) is a joint project of municipalities and counties in the “Triangle Region” of North Carolina including the Town of Cary, Town of Chapel Hill, City of Durham, City of Raleigh, Durham County, and Orange County. The first project of the Partnership was a resiliency assessment of the area’s assets and risks - in partnership with the University of North Carolina Asheville’s National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC) and the Triangle J Council of Governments.

ND-GAIN Urban Adaptation Assessment

October 2018

The Urban Adaptation Assessment (UAA) is an interactive database within a visual platform to support city leaders in decisionmaking related to climate adaptation and resilience.   The tool utilizes data from over 270 cities within the United States, including all 50 states and Puerto Rico, whose populations are above 100,000. The UAA is free, open source data - in a user friendly tool to help prioritize climate strategies and mechanisms for sustained urban climate resilience.  For each city, indicators of climate vulnerabilities in the built environment, and indicators of social vulnerability are established and mapped at a sub-city or census tract level.

NC Executive Order No. 80: North Carolina's Commitment to Address Climate Change and Transition to a Clean Energy Economy

On October 29, 2018, North Carolina's Governor Roy Cooper signed Executive Order (EO) No. 80 entitled, "North Carolina's Commitment to Address Climate Change and Transition to a Clean Energy Economy. " EO 80 calls for the state to take several actions related to climate change to improve the health and well-being of North Carolina's residents, foster innovation and growth of a clean energy workforce, prepare more resilient communities, and reduce the impacts of climate change, like more frequent and intense hurricanes, flooding, extreme temperature, drought, saltwater intrusion, and beach erosion.

CA AB 3012 State Coastal Conservancy: grants: climate change projects

AB 3012 authorizes the State Coastal Conservancy to address climate change impacts on California’s coastal resources through funding projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, address extreme weather events, sea level rise, storm surge, beach and bluff erosion, salt water intrusion, flooding, and other coastal hazards that threaten coastal communities, infrastructure, and natural resources.

Iowa City Climate Action and Adaptation Plan

September 18, 2018

Iowa City’s Climate Action Plan identifies strategies for city-wide greenhouse gas reductions, and climate change adaptation. The plan summarizes what Iowa City government has done in recent years to build climate resilience and to convert to renewable energy, and outlines 35 actions to be taken by the community and City to achieve the goal of reducing GHG emissions by 80% by 2050. The report provides general information about past and projected climate change effects on the region, and presents strategies to adapt to these impacts while incorporating social equity.
