The Environmental Resilience Institute Toolkit (ERIT) is a publicly-accessible online tool designed primarily for communities of Indiana and midwestern states to assess, prepare for, and respond to “environmental change. ” ERIT has a special emphasis on Midwestern communities but includes resources for small to mid-sized communities in both rural and urban areas across the U. S. The toolkit includes case studies, adaptation strategies, adaptation planning tools, and potential funding sources.

Developed under Indiana’s Lake Michigan Coastal Program, Coastal Hazards Planning Guidance for Indiana Coastal Communities provides information for local governments about coastal hazards and planning techniques. The report describes various coastal hazards for the Great Lakes and the state of hazard planning for each of Indiana’s shoreline communities. The guide also reviews many coastal hazard model ordinance provisions, and steps to developing new ordinances from these models.

The Indiana State Climate Office (Iclimate) is the state archive of official daily and hourly weather observations recorded throughout Indiana from both manual and automated networks. Older observations are being converted to an online database as part of an ongoing national effort. Iclimate not only assists in providing climate observations and summaries but also interprets and applies this data to solve climate related problems at hand. Primary users of Climate data belong to sectors such as agriculture, attorneys, construction, environmental monitoring, forensics, government insurance, news media, research, education and utilities.
The Purdue Climate Change Research Center's (PCCRC) mission is to increase scientific and public understanding of the causes and impacts of climate change through fundamental research and effective education and outreach. The overarching goals are to understand the causes and consequences of climate change, improve predictive models to project future climate conditions, and inform on-going state, national, and international policy discussions on climate change, including mitigation and adaptation strategies.
The USGS Indiana Water Science Center provides current real time data on streamflow, ground water, water quality, precipitation, and lakes and reservoirs from sites throughout Indiana. The center has historical data on streamflow, ground water, water quality, and other water-related information. The center also has numerous publications, data sheets, projects, and scientific reports on a range of hydrological topics. The USGS provides current ("real-time") stream stage and streamflow, water-quality, ground-water levels, precipitation, and lake-stage for over 200 sites in Indiana.
The Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant (IISG) provides research, education and outreach to coastal communities to help secure healthy coastal environments and economies. IISG brings together scientists, educators, policy makers, community decision makers, outreach specialists, business leaders, and the general public to focus on coastal issues in the southern Lake Michigan region - 104 miles of heavily urbanized and industrialized shoreline in Illinois and Indiana. IISG's program addresses critical issues including aquaculture, aquatic invasive species, climate change, coastal restoration, fish consumption, great lakes health, land use planning, pharmaceuticals, water quality, and water supply.
Central Hardwoods Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis: A Report from the Central Hardwoods Climate Change Response Framework Project
This report was prepared by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Central Hardwoods Climate Change Response Framework Project in conjunction with the Northern Research Station of the U. S. Forest Service (USFS). Assessing the ecosystem vulnerability to climate change of nine natural community types in the Central Hardwoods Region, the document uses forest model projections and projections for wildfires, invasive species, and diseases. This assessment evaluates the vulnerability of terrestrial ecosystems in the Central Hardwoods Region of Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri to a range of future climates.

FHWA Midwest Adaptation Peer Exchange Report: Minimizing the Impacts of Climate Change on Transportation Systems in the Midwest

The Midwest Adaptation Peer Exchange Report summarizes the outcomes of two Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored peer-exchange events that focused on minimizing the impacts of climate change on transportation assets in the Midwest. Participants included Indiana MPOs and Midwestern state DOTs. The purpose of the peer exchanges was to identify and share tools that are available to local, regional, and state transportation managers to encourage them to prepare for and minimize climate impacts on transportation infrastructure.
