Mitigwaki idash Nibi (Our Forests and Water): A Climate Adaptation Plan for the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians

The Red Lake Department of Natural Resources (DNR), with support from the Model Forest Policy Program, developed this climate adaptation plan for the natural resources of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota. This plan identifies goals, objectives, strategies, and action steps to address climate impacts to the forest and water systems within the Reservation. The plan will inform future resource management, development, and planning programs with the aim to help the tribe become climate resilient.

Great Lakes Restoration and Climate Change Symposium
April 2014
The purpose of the Great Lakes Restoration and Climate Change event was to convene Great Lakes leaders and climate experts to assess the range of impacts of climate change on the Great Lakes, and to develop policy-based strategies to integrate climate variation into future restoration and stewardship practices. Jenny Kehl, the director of the Center for Water Policy at University of Wisconsin’s School of Freshwater Sciences, spearheaded the meeting and action plan.

Minnesota State Hazard Mitigation Plan
March 14, 2014
Minnesota’s State Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies major natural hazards occurring across the state, and presents a comprehensive assessment of the vulnerability to those hazards. The Plan identifies goals and recommended actions for state government to reduce and/or prevent injury and damage from hazardous events. Beyond compliance to the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, Minnesota’s Hazard Mitigation Plan includes a description of the effects of climate change for each of the natural hazards identified.

Minneapolis Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies

Created as part of a capstone project in Sustainability Planning at the University of Minnesota, with support from the Minneapolis Sustainability Office, this report depicts climate change impacts and potential adaptation strategies for Minneapolis, Minnesota. Adaptation goals are presented with recommended strategies, best practices, and case studies of these strategies implemented in other localities.

Climate Ready Great Lakes Training Modules

Minnesota Water Sustainability Framework

A result of funding from passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Act in 2008, the Minnesota state legislature directed the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center to construct a 25-year water sustainability framework that describes the primary issues that must be addressed to achieve sustainable water use and recommendations for what the state should do to address those issues.

Adapting to Climate Change in Minnesota - Preliminary Report of the Interagency Climate Adaptation Team

In July, 2009, an Interagency Climate Adaptation Team (ICAT) began to explore the potential effects of climate change in Minnesota, and to develop an adaptation plan for the state. This high-level report, the first work product of the team, synthesizes how climate change may affect Minnesota. The report includes an inventory of past, current and proposed state agency adaptation actions for key sectors including: agriculture, energy, health, natural resources, water and transportation.

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Action Plan

In February 2009, President Obama proposed $475 million for a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. This Action Plan describes how the Initiative was to be executed from 2010 through 2014, building on the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Strategy (GLRC Strategy), which provided the framework for the Action Plan.

Midwest Climate Hub
2014
The USDA Regional Climate Hubs offer climate adaptation tools, strategies management options, and technical support to farmers, ranchers and forest land owners. The Hubs direct land managers to USDA agencies that can provide program support to enable them to implement climate-informed management practices. The Midwest Climate Hub works with the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Minnesota.
