The Carbon Footprint of Water

May 2009

Produced by the River Network, this report analyzes the energy and carbon emissions embedded in U.S. water supplies. This information is intended to help river and watershed groups, policy makers, and water managers understand the magnitude of water-related energy use and evaluate the potential to reduce carbon emissions through water conservation, efficiency, reuse and low impact development strategies.

USGCRP Global Climate Change Impacts in the U.S. - Water Resources

June 2009

This report is one of seven sector-specific chapters from the United States Global Change Research Program's comprehensive 2009 National Climate Assessment, "Global Climate Change Impacts in the U. S. "  The 'Water Resources' chapter synthesizes current and projected impacts to the U. S. water cycle from climate change. Changes to the water cycle identified in the report include: changes in precipitation patterns and intensity, changes in the incidence of drought, widespread melting of snow and ice, increasing atmospheric water vapor, increasing evaporation, increasing water temperatures, reductions in lake and river ice, and changes in soil moisture and runoff.

California Climate Action Team Biennial Report - 2009 CAT Report

March 2009

In June 2005, Executive Order S-05-05 was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger which mandated the preparation of biennial science assessment reports on climate change impacts and adaptation options for California. The first Climate Action Team (CAT) Assessment Report was produced in March 2006. This 2009 assessment expands on the policy-oriented 2006 assessment, and provides new information and scientific findings including: 1) the development of new climate and sea-level projections using new information and tools that have become available in the last two years; and 2) an evaluation of climate change within the context of broader social changes, such as land-use changes and demographic shifts.
