Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI) - Regional Models

Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI) Climate Working Group created and maintains regional, down-scaled global climate models to demonstrate how Wisconsin's climate has been changing and project how it might change in the years to come. A number of methods have been developed to derive detailed regional and local climate data in order to evaluate the potential impacts of climate change by incorporating landscape features, water bodies, or other characteristics that may influence regional or local climate into global models.

NCAR Nested Regional Climate Model

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has created computer models to study many aspects of atmospheric and earth system phenomena. The Nested Regional Climate Model (NRCM) combines the strengths of NCAR's Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and NCAR's Community Climate System Model (CCSM) into an instrument that will improve the understanding and prediction of regional climate variability and change. In particular, embedding WRF within CCSM will allow scientists to resolve processes that occur at the regional scale, as well as the influence of those processes on the large-scale climate, thereby improving the fidelity of climate change simulations and their utility for local and regional planning.

Integrated Assessment for Effective Climate Change Strategies in New York State

The “Integrated Assessment for Effective Climate Change Adaptation Strategies in New York State" project was undertaken by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) ClimAID science team.   The vulnerability assessment considers the effects of climate change on New York, including rising sea levels, increasing temperatures, and changing weather patterns. The project draws upon both local experience and scientific knowledge by involving numerous stakeholders in eight key sectors: agriculture, communications, ecosystems, energy, ocean coastal zones, public health, transportation, and water resources.

Community Resource Inventory - South Carolina

A community resource inventory is an online mapping atlas of the natural and cultural resources in a community, along with human dimensions information. The human dimensions information includes land parcels, urban areas, and streets and highways. For South Carolina, the Community Resource Inventory-South Carolina (CRI-SC) tool presents these data in an online map for users without traditional geographic information system capabilities. Having a detailed set of inventory maps can assist those who are interested in planning for the effects of sea-level rise in South Carolina.

Energy and Environment Legislation Tracking Device

The National Conference of State Legislatures tracks state energy and environment legislation that has been introduced in the fifty states and the District of Columbia. Both climate change mitigation and adaptation searches are supported. The tracker contains bills that have been enacted, as well as those that are pending or have failed. NCSL indicates their database is updated and summarized bi-weekly. .

California Climate Change Portal

The California Climate Change Portal is a virtual research and information website for climate change mitigation and adaptation resources and information pertinent to the state of California. Information from the California Energy Commission's Climate Change Program Office, the PIER Program's climate change research unit, and other state agencies is combined and represented through the portal,  including the impacts of climate change on California and the state's policies relating to global warming.

Coastal Zone Management Estuarine Research Reserves Project Grants

Coastal Zone Management Estuarine Research Reserves project grants are awarded to coastal states, including those that border the Great Lakes and non-continental U. S. territories, to assist in the development, acquisition, monitoring, research, education, operation and facilities construction for National Estuarine Research Reserves. These grants are provided for the purpose of creating natural field laboratories to gather data and make studies of, and educate people about the natural and human processes occurring within the estuaries of the coastal zone.
