Shinnecock Indian Nation Climate Change Adaptation Plan

October 2013

The Shinnecock Indian Nation, or the People of the Stony Shore, are located on the East End of Long Island adjacent to Southampton, New York with a territory of 800 acres of ancestral land. The Shinnecock are an Algonquian people who have forever lived along the shores of Eastern Long Island, whereas Federal recognition for this tribe was achieved as of October 1, 2010. The Shinnecock Reservation is at sea level, and this area is particularly vulnerable to sea-level rise, hurricanes, flooding, and shoreline erosion.

DOI Secretarial Order 3289 (2010) - Addressing the Impacts of Climate Change on America's Water, Land and Other Natural and Cultural Resources

This U. S, Department of the Interior (DOI) order, Secretarial Order No. 3289, establishes a department-wide approach for applying scientific tools to increase the understanding of climate change and to coordinate an effective response to its impacts on tribes and on the land, water, ocean, fish and wildlife, and cultural heritage resources that the Department manages. It replaces Secretarial Order No. 3226, Amendment No. 1, issued on January 16, 2009, and reinstates the provisions of Secretarial Order No.

MAGICC/SCENGEN: Model for the Assessment of Greenhouse-gas Induced Climate Change, A Regional Climate Scenario Generator

MAGICC and SCENGEN are coupled, user-friendly interactive software suites that allow users to investigate future climate change and its uncertainties at both the global-mean and regional levels. MAGICC carries through calculations at the global-mean level using the same upwelling-diffusion, energy-balance climate model that has been and is employed by IPCC. SCENGEN uses these results, together with spatially detailed results from the CMIP3/AR4 archive of AOGCMs, to produce spatially detailed information on future changes in temperature, precipitation and MSLP, changes in their variability, and a range of other statistics.

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant Program is supporting projects that reduce communities’ vulnerability to the growing risks from coastal storms, sea level rise, flooding, erosion and associated threats through strengthening natural ecosystems that also benefit fish and wildlife. First Oregon Climate Assessment Report (OCAR)

December 2010

In 2007, the Oregon State Legislature charged the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute (OCCRI), via HB 3543, with assessing climate change science including biological, physical and social science in Oregon, and expected climate impacts. This inaugural assessment report is meant to act as a compendium of the relevant research on climate change and its impacts on the state of Oregon. This report draws on a large body of work on climate change impacts in the western U. S. from the Climate Impacts Group at the University of Washington (CIG), and the California Climate Action Team.

VIMS Recurrent Flooding Study for Tidewater Virginia

January 14, 2013

In March 2012, the Virginia Legislature passed House Joint Resolution No. 50, which directed the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) to study the impacts of recurrent flooding in Tidewater and the Eastern Shore, and to identify adaptation strategies. The Recurrent Flooding Study makes projections for recurrent flooding due to sea-level rise, storm surge, and heavy rainfall, addressing all localities in Virginia's coastal zone.

The District of Columbia Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) Climate Change Adaptation Plan describes the impacts that the District is likely to experience due to climate change, outlines a framework for identifying priority assets, and sets forth a series of action items for implementing the Plan. The target audience for this framework plan is decision makers, engineers, designers, planners, and other transportation professionals in DDOT. The plan focuses only on transportation and was developed based on the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) research and guidance.
