Global Warming in the Free State

July 2008

This comprehensive climate change impact assessment was developed to support adaptation planning in the state of Maryland. It was prepared by a Scientific and Technical Working Group, by leading experts in the state in climate change and its impacts, including experts from the University of Maryland.  This assessment informed development of the state's Phase II Adaptation Strategy, A Comprehensive Strategy for Reducing Maryland's Vulnerability to Climate Change.

California Climate Action Team Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document – for use by Caltrans and other State Agencies

March 2013

The State of California Sea-Level Rise Guidance Document was developed by the Coastal and Ocean Working Group of the California Climate Action Team (CO-CAT) to provide guidance for incorporating sea-level rise (SLR) projections into planning and decision-making in California. The guidance provides ranges of SLR for all California agencies, including the Department of Transportation (CalTrans), to be used for risk-based scenario planning and assessments, such as long term transportation planning and vulnerability assessments.

Miami Beach, Florida Stormwater Management Master Plan

August 17, 2012

In 2012, the City of Miami Beach, Florida approved an updated city-wide Comprehensive Stormwater Management Master Plan (SWMMP). The plan includes strategies for improving stormwater management practices, coastal infrastructure, funding, and regulatory policies. The plan accounts for sea level rise impacts on stormwater in the City, and provides planning flexibility for various rates of sea level rise. The SWMMP is intended to be a guide for improving Miami Beach’s stormwater management system flood control and water quality performance for the next 20 years, with considerations of potential sea level rise over 20-years of stormwater infrastructure and a 50-year planning horizon for sea wall heights.

State of California Sea-Level Rise Interim Guidance Document

October 2010

California Executive Order S-13-08 required all state agencies that are planning construction projects in areas vulnerable to future sea-level rise (SLR) to "consider a range of sea level rise scenarios for the years 2050 and 2100 in order to assess project vulnerability and, to the extent feasible, reduce expected risks and increase resiliency to sea level rise. " To support this directive, the Sea‐Level Rise Task Force of the Coastal and Ocean Working Group of the California Climate Action Team (CO‐CAT), with science support provided by the Ocean Protection Council’s Science Advisory Team and the California Ocean Science Trust, developed this guidance document for incorporating SLR projections into planning and decision making for projects in California.

Ecosystem Services and Climate Adaptation

July 2010

This policy brief discusses the economic value of natural resources and ecological systems, the impacts climate change will have on natural systems and the wealth they generate, and the difficulties in pricing ecosystem goods and services. This brief focuses on two broad questions: 1) What kinds of adaptation challenges will be created by climate‐driven changes in the form, scale, and location of ecosystem goods and services. and 2) How should climate adaptation policies protect and manage natural wealth as its delivery is affected by climate change.
