Prioritizing Local Climate Adaptation through Regional Collaboration on Maryland's Eastern Shore

Focused on the Eastern Shore region of Maryland, this white paper makes the case that preparing for and adapting to climate change impacts should be a priority for local governments. The paper also describes the benefits of regional collaboration and the consequences of inaction, and offers recommendations on how to prioritize local adaptation. This report was prepared for the Eastern Shore Climate Adaptation Partnership (ESCAP) by the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy.

Solar Works DC
May 18, 2017
In 2017, the District of Columbia’s Departments of Energy & Environment (DOEE) and Employment Services (DOES) partnered with GRID Alternatives Mid-Atlantic to start Solar Works DC, to implement a low-income solar installation program with a job training component. The purpose of the Program is to focus on training disadvantaged members of the D. C. community in solar installation, and provide low-income families with solar energy systems. Over a three-year period, more than 200 individuals have been trained in solar-related related industries.

The Conservation Law Foundation addresses the legal liability risks of decision makers if they fail to prepare for climate change impacts to infrastructure in this report. Theories of legal liability are described for design professionals (such as engineers and architects) or government entities (like a city or a water reclamation district) as related to climate adaptation and resilience of buildings, roads, and other critical infrastructure. The report was produced from workshops that took place in Boston and has many references to specific laws and regulations in Massachusetts.

Lenders’ Guide for Considering Climate Risk in Infrastructure Investments

Four Twenty Seven, in collaboration with Acclimatise and Climate Finance Advisers, published this guide to discuss the acute and chronic impacts of climate change on infrastructure, and the associated risks and liability for infrastructure investors. Once climate impacts and infrastructure resiliency are taken into account, loan and credit officers can structure lending that maximizes performance and minimizes risks. The guide includes ten “snapshots” or summaries of climate hazards and risks for the infrastructure sub-industries of: Airports; Marine Ports; Gas and Oil Transport and Storage; Power Transmission and Distribution; Wind-Based Power Distribution; Telecommunications; Data Centers; Commercial Real Estate; Healthcare; and Sport and Entertainment.
