Decadal and Regional Climate Prediction using Earth System Models (EaSM)

March 25, 2010

This joint research program is conducted by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and U. S. Department of Agriculture, and is designed to produce high-resolution models for predicting climate change and resulting impacts.   It allows the partner agencies to combine resources to identify and fund the most exemplary and highest-impact projects that support their respective missions, while eliminating duplication of effort and fostering collaboration between agencies and the investigators they support.

ITEP Tribes and Climate Change Program

The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) Tribes and Climate Change Program provides support to tribes that are preparing for and currently contending with climate change including resources to develop climate change adaptation strategies. Development of the program is guided by an advisory committee that includes tribal environmental and natural resource professionals who are actively working on climate change issues. The program's online portal provides information on climate change impacts, adaptation planning, research, policy, guides and other educational tools, with a focus on the climate effects upon, and proactive involvement of, Native American tribes.

City of Toronto (Ontario, Canada) Climate Change Risk Assessment Tool

2010

The City of Toronto developed its Climate Change Risk Assessment Tool, a software program and review process, to enable Toronto’s service and infrastructure providers to identify climate change risks and assess potential actions to reduce the impacts of climate change on infrastructure. Toronto’s Transportation Services Division (TSD) tested the tool in a 2011 pilot study, examining the impacts on 90 assets and services from seven extreme weather event types over two time horizons. The TSD pilot found that the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events is expected to quadruple the number of extreme risk scenarios by 2050.

Delaware 2017 Coastal Inundation Maps

2017

Delaware's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the scientists from Delaware Coastal Programs have developed Sea Level Rise (SLR) inundation maps for the state as an online interactive tool. The maps show the possible impacts of inundation based on various SLR scenarios for Delaware’s waterways and watersheds.  The maps are a representation of inundation based on local Mean Higher High Water (MHHW), which is the long-term average of the higher of the daily high tides.

Options for Improving Climate Modeling to Assist Water Utility Planning for Climate Change

December 2009

This report, which was commissioned by the Water Utility Climate Alliance (WUCA), considers how federal investments in the science of climate change, and in particular climate modeling, can best be directed to help improve the quality of  research so that it may be more useful to water utilities and other possible users in adapting to climate change.   It explains how climate models work, describes how some WUCA members have used climate models and downscaling to assess impacts on their systems and develop adaptation options, and makes seven initial recommendations for how climate modeling and downscaling techniques can be improved so that these tools and techniques can be more useful for the water sector.

The Likelihood of Shore Protection Data Set

2009

This site provides the GIS data that was used for the study "State and Local Governments Plan for Development of Most Land Vulnerable to Rising Sea Level along the U. S. Atlantic Coast," published by James Titus. The GIS data are available in three formats: grid, polygon shape files, and vector shape files. This data identifies shoreline development and areas that will be vulnerable to sea level rise. .
