Colorado Climate Preparedness Project Adaptation Database

The Colorado Climate Preparedness Project (CCPP) was initiated to to assist Colorado in continuing to prepare itself for climate variability and change by providing a catalog of climate vulnerabilities and current adaptation activities in the state. The project focuses on five key sectors that were identified by the state advisory team as particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate variability and change including: Water; Wildlife, ecosystems and forests; Electricity; Agriculture; and Climate-sensitive tourism and outdoor recreation.

Washington Department of Ecology Clearinghouse: Impacts, Preparation, Adaptation Resources

The Washington Department of Ecology developed a central clearinghouse to store resources with scientific and technical information related to the impacts of climate change on different sectors in Washington. Resources in the clearinghouse are generally organized by the same sectors within the statewide adaptation plan, the '2012 Washington State Integrated Climate Change Response Strategy' (which also is reviewed in this Clearinghouse). Efforts to maintain and expand the clearinghouse help address several recommendations made in the 2012 Strategy.

NWF Climate-Smart Conservation Website

Developed and maintained by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), the Climate-Smart Conservation website is a rich resource for conservation practitioners learning to incorporate the consideration of climate change into their existing practices. This site contains principles for adaptation and guidance materials for conducting vulnerability assessments and for incorporating climate change into wildlife action plans and on-the-ground conservation programs. NWF "climate-smart" conservation projects and case studies are highlighted.

U.S. Forest Service (USFS): Climate Change Resource Center

The USFS Climate Change Resource Center (CCRC) is a reference website for resource managers and decision makers who need information and tools to address climate change - regarding both mitigation and adaptation - in planning and implementing projects. The website offers educational information, including basic science modules that explain climate and climate impacts, decision-support models, maps, simulations, case studies, and numerous toolkits and publications.

Wildlife in a Warming World: Confronting the Climate Crisis

January 30, 2013

From the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), Wildlife in a Warming World examines case studies from across the country illustrating how climate change is altering wildlife habitats and contributing to population declines. Recommendations are made to protect both wildlife and communities in various ecosystems from the impacts of climate change, such as extreme weather, sea level rise and wildfires.

Virginia's Climate Modeling and Species Vulnerability Assessment: How Climate Data Can Inform Management and Conservation

2013

This project developed models of select fish, wildlife and tree species distributions in Virginia under multiple climate change scenarios, and produced a species vulnerability assessment for the state. The assessment is intended to help decision makers better understand how climate change will likely affect sensitive species and habitats in Virginia. The project was funded by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) through a State Wildlife Grant, and by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and was supported by research from the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech.

Identifying Species in Pennsylvania Potentially Vulnerable to Climate Change

June 2011

From the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program, the goals of this project were to first compile a priority list of species occurring in Pennsylvania that are likely vulnerable to climate change, and to then examine the climate change vulnerability of species included in the priority list. The overall objective was to not only identify climate change vulnerable species but to also examine the abiotic factors and life history characteristics that contribute to their increased vulnerability.

Integrating Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment into Adaptation Planning: A Case Study Using the NatureServe Climate Change Vulnerability Index to Inform Conservation Planning for Species in Florida

2011

Developed by Defenders of Wildlife in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, this report presents a case study using NatureServe’s Climate Change Vulnerability Index to inform planning for species conservation in Florida.   The work was a pilot for an adaptation framework that integrates information from species vulnerability assessments into a comprehensive planning process, to identify adaptation strategies and management opportunities for species vulnerable to climate change impacts.
