Global Change Biology, Journal

Global Change Biology (GCB) publishes research related to the interface between all aspects of current environmental change and biological systems, including rising tropospheric GHG concentrations, climate change, loss of biodiversity, and eutrophication.   Studies may be experimental, observational or theoretical, and may concern aquatic or terrestrial and managed or natural environments.   GCB concentrates on primary research articles, but operates a flexible policy regarding other submissions, which include Technical Papers, Mini-Reviews and Opinion Articles.

Economic Impacts of Climate Change on Tennessee

September 2008

From the Center for Integrative Environmental Research (CIER) at the University of Maryland, this report investigates the economic impacts of climate change in Tennessee. The key economic sectors most likely to be affected by climate change are addressed, along with the main impacts to be expected for these sectors. The assessment provides examples of the direct economic impacts and of the additional related, or ripple, economic effects on the state. The report also identifies specific data gaps and research needs for further understanding of the continual economic impacts.

Convention on Biological Diversity Climate Change Adaptation Database

From the Convention on Biological Diversity, this database provides a web-based tool for guidance on the integration of biodiversity within adaptation planning. The website includes vulnerability studies, threat studies, assessment tools, case studies, and monitoring tools related to adaptation planning for ecosystems. A table of adaptation options is provided that applies a ranking system of "adverse" to "neutral" to "positive" in terms of the impact of adaptation activities on ecosystems and the services they provide.

King County, Washington Climate Plan 2007

February 2007

This 2007 report provides an overview of King County’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to anticipate and adapt to projected climate change impacts. Major accomplishments in 2007 include the development of a vulnerable facilities inventory for divisions responsible for long-term asset management, the adoption of the King County Flood Control Zone District, and discussions of how to prepare for intense storm events and identify flood system co-benefits for public health and environmental quality.

Climate Change and Forests of the Future: Managing in the Face of Uncertainty

2007

This article offers a conceptual framework for managing forested ecosystems given the uncertainty of the impacts of climate change. The article addresses both mitigation and adaptation strategies. The adaptation strategies presented include resistance options (forestall impacts and protect highly valued resources), resilience options (improve the capacity of ecosystems to return to desired conditions after disturbance), and response options (facilitate transition of ecosystems from current to new conditions).

Climate Change & Aspen: An Assessment of Impacts and Potential Responses

July 2006

Adopted by the City of Aspen, Colorado in 2006, this report includes an assessment of possible climate change impacts to the city, provides an greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the city, sets emissions reductions goals, and facilitates coordination on climate action between city agencies and private entities. The assessment focuses on climate impacts on mountain snow, Aspen's ecology and ecosystem processes, socioeconomics of the ski industry, and the streamflow of the Roaring Fork River which provides municipal water supplies.

Climate Change Impact on Forest Resources in California

March 2006

This study, produced by the California Climate Change Center, evaluates the impact of climate change on California’s forest resources by developing a case study for a mixed conifer forest in the northern Sierra Nevada. The research utilized data-driven modeling tools to project the effect of a changing climate on forest growth, forest yield, and tree mortality.
