A Climate Action Plan for Maine 2004

December 1, 2004

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection wrote the Climate Action Plan to meet the requirements of a state law passed in 2003 (PL 237). This was a first step by Maine towards meeting emissions reductions targets they committed to as part of a resolution by New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers. The plan concludes with fifty-four recommended actions required to ensure legislative targets are met. While the Climate Action Plan is focused on mitigation, many of the potential options for reducing emissions related to agriculture and forestry offer some adaptive co-benefits.

Confronting Climate Change in the Great Lakes Region: Impacts on Our Communities and Ecosystems

January 1, 2003

This report released by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and the Ecological Society of America examines the potential impacts of climate change upon the various ecosystems of the Great Lakes region. While somewhat dated, it is still highly relevant, and is cited in numerous subsequent impact studies. An updated Executive Summary was also released in 2005, which considered the findings of over 24 additional studies in the region. State summaries are also available on an interactive and comprehensive Union of Concerned Scientists website designed to represent the findings in this report.

Confronting Climate Change in the Gulf Coast Region: Prospects for Sustaining Our Ecological Heritage

October 2001

This report from the Union of Concerned Scientists and the Ecological Society of America explores the potential risks of climate change to Gulf Coast ecosystems in the context of pressures from land use. Its purpose is to help the public and policymakers understand the most likely ecological consequences of climate change in the region over the next 50 to 100 years, and prepare to safeguard the economy, culture, and natural heritage of the Gulf Coast.

Washington Department of Ecology Clearinghouse: Impacts, Preparation, Adaptation Resources

The Washington Department of Ecology developed a central clearinghouse to store resources with scientific and technical information related to the impacts of climate change on different sectors in Washington. Resources in the clearinghouse are generally organized by the same sectors within the statewide adaptation plan, the '2012 Washington State Integrated Climate Change Response Strategy' (which also is reviewed in this Clearinghouse). Efforts to maintain and expand the clearinghouse help address several recommendations made in the 2012 Strategy.
