Colorado Climate Plan - State Level Policies and Strategies to Mitigate and Adapt

The Colorado Climate Plan is a statewide strategy of policy recommendations and actions to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and to increase Colorado’s climate preparedness. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Climate Change Adaptation Plan

October 2014

As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, Federal agencies released their agency Sustainability Plans and Climate Change Adaptation Plans on October 31, 2014. The agencies have been directed to assess their vulnerabilities to climate change impacts in these plans, and to outline how they will protect Federal programs, assets and investments.

The Oregon Climate Change Adaptation Framework

December 2010

Oregon's Climate Change Adaptation Framework is the result of a collaborative effort between Oregon's state agencies with support from the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute. This report provides a framework for the continued development of strategies and plans to address future climate conditions in the state. Priority climate risks and their respective impacts on key sectors are outlined, followed by over 100 adaptation strategies for near- and long-term planning and implementation.   This framework identifies 11 key risks that are likely to occur.

City of Portland and Multnomah County, Oregon Climate Action Plan 2015

June 2015

The City of Portland and Multnomah County, Oregon 2015 Climate Action Plan (CAP) presents a plan to reduce local carbon emissions 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050 with specific objectives to achieve by 2030. The Plan also identifies over 100 strategies to both reduce local carbon emissions, and adapt to and prepare for climate change in the short-term. The CAP states that its success is dependent on ability to create jobs, advance social equity, improve public health, strengthen natural systems and enhance quality of life, as co-benefits of these mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire Coastal Resilience Initiative: Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan

April 2, 2013

The Coastal Resilience Initiative (CRI) is the City of Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s first program established to assess the potential local impacts from climate change. Prepared under the Initiative by a team of researchers from the University of New Hampshire and the Rockingham Planning Commission, this detailed, 50-page report provides a broad overview of risk and vulnerability of Portsmouth’s public and private assets as a result of projected changes in climate, and offers a number of possible coastal adaptation measures.

Baltimore Climate Action Plan (Maryland)

January 15, 2013

The City of Baltimore, Maryland's Climate Action Plan (CAP), was developed by the Office of Sustainability with the primary goal of reducing Baltimore’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, while thoroughly integrating adaptation measures. The plan involved the creation of a 22 member Climate Action Plan Advisory Committee, as well as working groups for Building Energy, Land Use & Transportation, Growing a Green City, and Adaptation.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Resilience Strategy

March 2017

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released its Resilience Strategy in March 2017 to provide a holistic strategy for helping the city to manage challenges from a changing environment, globalization, and urbanization. The Strategy sets goals, objectives, and action organized around a “P4” community-centered framework addressing resilience in terms of People, Place, Planet, and Performance.  The Strategy is intended to be a blueprint to help the city prepare for resilience challenges by helping the city improve coordination among government and non-governmental organizations, improve budgeting and capital coordination citywide, ensure the institutionalization of resilience practices, and increase resident engagement and empowerment. Development of this plan was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities initiative.

South Ironbound Resiliency Action Plan (Newark, New Jersey)

August 26, 2015

The South Ironbound Resiliency Action Plan lays out resiliency goals for a portion of the Ironbound neighborhood in the East Ward of Newark, New Jersey called South Ironbound, that will inform funding priorities and inform longer term climate mitigation and adaptation goals. The neighborhood is prone to flooding due to sewer back-ups, heavy rain storms, and storm surge. The report is organized into strategic components related to resilience. For each strategy, there is an in-depth review of major actions and implementation considerations.

ReImagina Puerto Rico

August 7, 2018

The Resilient Puerto Rico Advisory Commission - a collaborative of leaders from Puerto Rico’s businesses, government, and NGOs - came together with local communities after Hurricane Maria to determine how to best rebuild Puerto Rico as a more physically, economically, and socially resilient island. The Commission released ReImagina Puerto Rico as a guide to resilient recovery and reconstruction. The report offers recommendations for how to maximize philanthropic, local government, and federal recovery funds.
