Cleveland 2013 Climate Action Plan : Building Thriving and Healthy Neighborhoods

October 2013

Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s Office of Sustainability convened a 50-member Climate Action Advisory Committee with representatives of leading organizations from the commercial, industrial, educational, government, and non-profit sectors to inform and create Cleveland's Climate Action Plan (CAP). 33 actions are outlined in the plan, within 6 focus areas including: Energy Efficiency and Green Building; Advanced and Renewable Energy; Sustainable Mobility; Waste Reduction and Resource Conservation; Land Use and Clean Water; and Community Engagement and Public Health.

New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s Plan 2040: A Shared Vision for Sustainable Growth

September 4, 2013

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council’s (NYMTC) Regional Transportation Plan (Plan 2040) looks at strategies for incorporating climate change resilience throughout the entire transportation system. Chapter 2. 5 of the plan discusses “Resiliency and Climate Adaptation Strategies” for the NYMTC region. Plan 2040 reviews the NYMTC region’s jurisdictions to identify vulnerability assessments and resiliency plans, establish common goals, and make recommendations for strategies and projects under the region’s transportation improvement program (TIP) that will improve the resiliency of the system.

Connections 2040: Plan for a Greater Philadelphia (Pennsylvania)

September 2013

“Connections 2040: Plan for Greater Philadelphia” outlines strategies that communities can use to prepare their transportation system for the impacts of climate change, and includes examples of how cities within the greater Philadelphia region are using adaptation planning to enhance their transportation projects. Connections 2040 is the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s (DVRPC) long-range transportation plan, and is built around four core principles: manage growth and protect the environment; create livable communities; build the economy; and establish a modern multimodal transportation system.

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe Climate Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan

August 2013

Located in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe seeks to prepare for the broad-scale transformations to their homelands resulting from climate change. The goals of this adaptation plan include protecting and preserving cultural resources, ensuring continued economic growth, and promoting long-term community vitality. The plan begins by discussing observed changes, projections of future changes, and climate exposure across the following areas: increasing temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, sea level rise and coastal flooding, ocean acidification and temperature increases, forest habitat changes, and human health.

Atlanta, Georgia Transit Asset Management System Pilot Project

August 2013

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) participated in a pilot program (“pilot”) that looks at climate stressors in the Atlanta region, and explores ways that MARTA may modify their asset management system to monitor changes to the region’s assets caused by climate change and help identify response strategies. Under this pilot, MARTA inventoried system assets and used climate risk modeling projections to assess the vulnerability of assets to climate risk; identified strategies to manage risks; and incorporated risk management strategies into lifecycle management plans by monitoring and updating asset records following any change in condition.

Hampton Roads Military Transportation Needs Study: Roadways Serving the Military and Sea Level Rise/Storm Surge

July 2013

This report is intended to address sea level rise and storm surge flooding related threats to military transportation infrastructure and readiness. It was prepared by the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTO) at the request of military officials, who expressed concerns in 2009 that delays at the region’s bridges and tunnels were negatively impacting their ability to carry out their missions. To address these concerns and better understand the scope of the problem, the study includes three phases; (1) a highway network analysis, (2) a survey of military commuters, and (3) an analysis of roadways serving the military and sea level rise/storm surge.

Connecticut Climate Change Preparedness Plan

2013

This adaptation plan presents strategies to address the climate change vulnerabilities for the built and natural environment, agriculture and public health in Connecticut - as identified in the 2010 report entitled “The Impacts of Climate Change on Connecticut Agriculture, Infrastructure, Natural Resources and Public Health.” The Connecticut Climate Change Preparedness Plan was published in 2011 and finalized in 2013.

A Stronger, More Resilient New York

June 11, 2013

On June 11, 2013 Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced this comprehensive plan for New York City that contains actionable recommendations both for rebuilding the communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy and increasing the resilience of infrastructure and buildings citywide. In December 2012, the Mayor formed the Special Initiative of Rebuilding and Resiliency with the direction of producing a plan to provide additional protection for the city's infrastructure and communities from the impacts of climate change.

A Stronger, More Resilient New York - Transportation Chapter

June 11, 2013

“A Stronger, More Resilient New York” is an adaptation plan (Plan) for New York City (NYC), which contains actionable recommendations both for rebuilding the communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy and increasing the resilience of infrastructure and buildings citywide. Chapter 10 of the plan is dedicated to transportation impacts, strategies, initiatives, and policy recommendations. This chapter details the impacts that occurred to the transportation system as a result of Hurricane Sandy, impacts that can be anticipated in the future as a result of climate change, and strategies for increasing the resilience of NYC’s transportation system.

Conservation and Development Policies: The Plan for Connecticut 2013-2018

June 5, 2013

In Connecticut, state agency actions for the acquisition and development of land and public infrastructure equipment and facilities in excess of $200,000 must be consistent with the state’s Conservation and Development (C&D) Plan (Connecticut General Statutes Chapter 297, Section 16a-31). The plan includes six Growth Management Principles that promote smart growth through: higher density, mixed income housing; transit oriented development; conserving natural, cultural, and historical resources; protecting public health and safety assets; and integrated planning across the state, regional, and local levels.
