Paths to a Sustainable Region - Boston Region Long-Range Transportation Plan

The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), “Paths to a Sustainable Region,” outlines policies, programs, and projects of regional significance or major infrastructure projects that have been identified as priorities for the region between now and 2035. The Boston LRTP adds climate change as an area of emphasis, and acknowledges the importance of adaptation measures to lessen or avoid potential impacts from climate change.

Pennsylvania Climate Adaptation Planning Report – Infrastructure Chapter

March 2010

The Pennsylvania Climate Adaptation Planning Report presents climate adaptation recommendations and strategies developed by stakeholder working groups from key sectors, including the infrastructure sector with a focus on transportation. The Infrastructure working group identified the key focus areas, vulnerabilities and risks to infrastructure assets; and prioritized actions (high, medium or low) based upon specific criteria including cost, timeliness of implementation, political support, data availability, planning, risk level, co-benefits, and risks to public health and safety.

Pennsylvania Climate Adaptation Planning Report: Risks and Practical Recommendations

2011

The first multi-sector, statewide effort to identify practical strategies for addressing climate change impacts, this report includes the recommendations for climate change adaptation of four sector-specific working groups: Infrastructure, Public Health and Safety, Natural Resources, and Tourism and Outdoor Recreation.  It builds upon the 2010 report  “Weathering Climate Change: Framing Strategies to Minimize the Impacts on Pennsylvania Ecosystems and Wildlife."

Pennsylvania Final Climate Change Action Plan

December 18, 2009

From Pennsylvania's Climate Change Action Committee, this plan identifies 52 specific recommendations for Pennsylvania and the federal government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Actions taken by the state to address climate mitigation as of 2009 are detailed. The plan's chapters are organized by sector including: electricity generation, transmission & distribution; residential and commercial; land use and transportation; industry; waste; agriculture; forestry; and macroeconomic assessment.

People and Nature Adapting to a Changing Climate: Charting Maine's Course

February 2010

In this report called for by the Maine Legislature, the state puts forth options for responding to the impacts of climate change.  The plan relies on the 2009 impact assessment report entitled Maine’s Climate Future: An Initial Assessment developed by the University of Maine.  The Department of Environmental Protection developed this plan through a stakeholder-based process to evaluate options and actions available to state businesses and people to prepare for “the most likely” impacts of climate change.

Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts, Climate Action and Clean Energy Plan

February 2014

The Pioneer Valley Climate Action and Clean Energy Plan presents an impact assessment of climate change in the Pioneer Valley region of Massachusetts, and provides many local and regional climate adaptation strategies. This plan identifies the amounts and sources of the Pioneer Valley’s greenhouse gas emissions; offers regional targets for GHG reduction in a Clean Energy Plan Update; and recommends detailed strategies for both mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Resilience Strategy

March 2017

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released its Resilience Strategy in March 2017 to provide a holistic strategy for helping the city to manage challenges from a changing environment, globalization, and urbanization. The Strategy sets goals, objectives, and action organized around a “P4” community-centered framework addressing resilience in terms of People, Place, Planet, and Performance.  The Strategy is intended to be a blueprint to help the city prepare for resilience challenges by helping the city improve coordination among government and non-governmental organizations, improve budgeting and capital coordination citywide, ensure the institutionalization of resilience practices, and increase resident engagement and empowerment. Development of this plan was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities initiative.

Plan for the 21st Century - New Orleans 2030 (City of New Orleans, Louisiana Master Plan)

August 12, 2010

New Orleans, Louisiana’s “Plan for the 21st Century,” also referred to as the Master Plan, is a City Charter-mandated planning framework for New Orleans’ physical, social, environmental, and economic future. Sponsored by the City Planning Commission, the Master Plan is New Orleans' primary policy and planning document, intended to guide the city’s growth for the next 20 years. The Master Plan has proposed climate adaptation related measures represented across many sectors, and contains a chapter dedicated to Green Infrastructure, and another to Resilience.

Planning for Climate Resilience City of Asheville, North Carolina: Phase I Assessment

The City of Asheville, North Carolina has identified climate-relate threats and hazards in this assessment to inform Asheville's climate resiliency planning efforts. The city used the information from the Assessment in updating its comprehensive plan, "Living Asheville," which was adopted in June 2018.

Portland, Oregon Central City 2035 Plan

July 9, 2018

As part of Portland Oregon’s Comprehensive Plan, the Central City 2035 Plan is the primary guiding policy document for Portland’s urban center. The plan offers goals, policies and tools to guide growth and development for largest “center” in Portland that, by 2035, will be home to 30% of Portland’s population growth, on 3% of its land area. One of the primary goals of the plan is to increase the resilience of the Central City to climate change, and policies are proposed for natural hazard, climate change and flooding resilience.
