Memphis, Tennessee Mid-South Regional GreenPrint

February 5, 2015

In 2015, the Mid-South Regional Commission created the Mid-South Regional GreenPrint as a visioning document for the tri-state area of the greater Memphis region for the next 25 years. The plan envisions a regional network of green space, including connected parks and greenways, or Greenprint. The intention of the Greenprint plan is to address long-term housing and land use, resource conservation, environmental protection, accessibility, community health and wellness, transportation alternatives, economic development, neighborhood engagement, and social equity in the Greater Memphis Area.

Sustainable City pLAn - Los Angeles, California

April 8, 2015

City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti released the Sustainable City pLAn to provide a roadmap for a Los Angeles that is “environmentally healthy, economically prosperous, and equitable in opportunity for all. ” The pLAn is a guide to sustainability policies and actions for all City departments, now and over the next 20 years. A complimentary pLAn website was developed to share the document itself and the vision behind it, as well as to present information on each of the City’s sustainability goals.

South Florida Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Pilot Project: Final Report

April 10, 2015

From 2013 to 2015, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored climate resilience pilot studies by partnering with State Departments of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). The FHWA’s Climate Change Resilience Pilots were designed to conduct climate change and extreme weather vulnerability assessments of transportation infrastructure and to analyze options for adapting and improving resiliency. This report presents the results of the FHWA pilot study in the southeast Florida region of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties.

Climate Change Adaptation Report: Georgetown, Maine

This report summarizes the findings of the Georgetown Conservation Commission’s assessment of climate risks for the island community of Georgetown, Maine. It aims to make meaningful climate action seem possible for residents by including some preliminary recommendations in this assessment. The report is organized around a framework that outlines common interests and climate factors that impact those interests. Each chapter focuses on one of the interest areas, frames the problem through the local context, and identifies specific vulnerabilities.

Eastern Shore of Virginia Transportation Infrastructure Inundation Vulnerability Assessment

May 2015

The Accomack-Northampton Planning District Commission of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, with support from the Virginia Department of Transportation, conducted a study in 2014 - 2015 to determine which transportation infrastructure in the Eastern Shore region is at risk to inundation from sea-level rise. This area is known to be extremely vulnerable to sea-level rise, and the research found that it will have increasingly significant impacts on transportation infrastructure, along with local communities, facilities, and economies.

MassDOT-FHWA Pilot Project Report: Climate Change and Extreme Weather Vulnerability Assessments and Adaptation Options for the Central Artery

June 2015

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) commissioned a pilot project to assess climate change vulnerability of the Central Artery and Tunnel System (CA/T) for the City of Boston, Massachusetts in 2013 - 2015. Through sea level rise and storm surge modeling for Boston, the study found that this critical transportation system is highly vulnerable to flooding. The pilot team developed adaptation strategies for current and future implementation, and initiated an emergency response plan for tunnel protection.

Keeping North Carolina's Farms and Forests Vibrant and Resilient: An Adaptive Management Planning Strategy

June 2015

The North Carolina Agriculture and Forestry Adaptation Work Group (NC-Adapt) has found that climate change risks to North Carolina’s agriculture and forestry industries warrant expanded and accelerated adaptive management planning. In this report, NC-Adapt reviews summarized climate impacts for the sectors, and outlines an adaptive management plan to improve agriculture and forestry resiliency and economic viability.

City of Portland and Multnomah County, Oregon Climate Action Plan 2015

June 2015

The City of Portland and Multnomah County, Oregon 2015 Climate Action Plan (CAP) presents a plan to reduce local carbon emissions 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050 with specific objectives to achieve by 2030. The Plan also identifies over 100 strategies to both reduce local carbon emissions, and adapt to and prepare for climate change in the short-term. The CAP states that its success is dependent on ability to create jobs, advance social equity, improve public health, strengthen natural systems and enhance quality of life, as co-benefits of these mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Monterey County, California Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan

June 2015

Monterey County, California and its twelve incorporated municipalities have integrated climate change into their combined Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. Hazard Mitigation Plans guide state and local efforts to reduce disaster losses of life, property, and infrastructure, including transportation assets. Home to more than 400,000 people, Monterey County sits along the California coast, where it faces numerous climate-connected - often interrelated - threats, including sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, wildfires, and landslides, which can all affect transportation.

SAFR Connecticut Connections: Building-up a resilient development and transportation network to support vulnerable communities

May 1, 2015

The State Agencies For Resilience (SAFR) Connecticut Connections report is a proposal for the National Disaster Resilience Competition (NDRC) implemented by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The NDRC is making nearly $1 billion in funds available to communities impacted by natural disasters from 2011-2013.  HUD preselected the State of Connecticut as an eligible applicant for this grant. Within the State of Connecticut, Fairfield and New Haven counties were determined by HUD to be the most impacted and distressed areas.
