New Hampshire’s Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) Project

New Hampshire’s Department of Environmental Services administers the Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) project which is intended to provide municipalities along the Great Bay with the resources they need to assess sea level rise and storm surge flooding. The Great Bay communities that have been assessed include: Rollinsford, Dover, Madbury, Durham, Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter, Stratham, Greenland, and Newington. This project is funded through the Coastal Zone Management Act by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Rhode Island: Vulnerability of Municipal Transportation Assets to Sea Level Rise and Storm Surge

September 28, 2016

From Rhode Island’s Statewide Planning Program, Technical Paper 167: “Vulnerability of Municipal Transportation Assets to Sea Level Rise and Storm Surge” analyzes the estimated geographic extent of sea level rise in relation to transportation infrastructure in the state over the next century. The study found that sea level rise presents a major challenge to Rhode Island’s transportation infrastructure, both via daily tidal flooding of coastal assets, and in making storm surge events more severe.

Puyallup Tribe Climate Change Impact Assessment and Adaptation Options

2016

The Pullayup Tribe of Indians, from the Puget Sound area of Washington State, have completed a climate impact assessment and adaptation strategy for the natural resources in the area on which they depend. This report combines the latest climate knowledge for the region with input from Tribal staff and members, and presents primary projected climate impacts for the Tribe and surrounding ecosystems, as well as strategic actions to build climate resilience.

California State Route 37 Stewardship Study

February 2016

The University of California Davis Road Ecology Center undertook a stewardship study to assess the risk to California State Route 37 (SR 37) from sea-level rise.  SR 37 passes near San Francisco Bay, connecting Interstate 80 and Highway 101.  The road corridor and surrounding wetlands are threatened by sea-level rise and flooding. The road bed sits below sea level at its lowest elevation and is likely to experience erosion, flooding during storms, and inundation due to sea-level rise. The State Road 37 Stewardship Study (Study) included a stakeholder process and technical analyses to determine possible future solutions to reduce the vulnerability of the highway to climate impacts.

States at Risk: America’s Preparedness Report Card 

January 20, 2016

America’s Preparedness Report Card is a national analysis of state level preparedness for climate change weather-related risks for all 50 states. Climate Central and ICF International identified states with considerable and significantly increasing levels of five major climate threats, including extreme heat, drought, wildfires, inland and coastal flooding, with an emphasis on risks to vulnerable populations. They also assessed climate change preparedness actions that each of the states are taking for their current and future projected impacts.

Cambridge, Massachusetts Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment - Part I

November 2015

The City of Cambridge, Massachusetts completed a Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment (CCVA) which primarily focuses on the City’s vulnerabilities to increasing temperature and precipitation, while addressing risks from sea level rise and storm surge flooding through 2030. The CCVA report consists of a 36 page summary report and three supplemental technical reports. Cambridge also completed Part 2 of the CCVA which discusses sea level rise and coastal storm surge impacts projected for the area.

U.S. DHS Casco Bay Region Climate Change Resiliency Assessment

March 2016

As a part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s Regional Resiliency Assessment Program (RRAP) - this research focuses on the local and regional impacts of climate change in the Casco Bay area, the most developed and populous region in Maine. The report focuses primarily on vulnerabilities that may affect the region’s ability to maintain its critical infrastructure systems, and provides corresponding Resilience Enhancement Options that DHS and other partners may utilize in climate adaptation planning.

South Florida Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Pilot Project: Final Report

April 10, 2015

From 2013 to 2015, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) sponsored climate resilience pilot studies by partnering with State Departments of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs). The FHWA’s Climate Change Resilience Pilots were designed to conduct climate change and extreme weather vulnerability assessments of transportation infrastructure and to analyze options for adapting and improving resiliency. This report presents the results of the FHWA pilot study in the southeast Florida region of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties.

City of Benicia, California Climate Change Vulnerability and Risk Summary Report

2015

The City of Benicia is a coastal community in the San Francisco Bay area of California. In April 2014, Benicia was awarded a California Coastal Conservancy Climate Ready Grant for $150,000 to conduct a climate change vulnerability assessment and to develop a climate adaptation plan. The Vulnerability and Risk Report was developed in partnership with ICF International and Placeworks, who examined climate change related vulnerabilities and risks in Benicia (primarily sea level rise, flooding and temperature changes).

Colorado Climate Vulnerability Study

January 2015

The Western Water Assessment (WWA), in collaboration with Colorado State University, conducted this climate vulnerability study for the state of Colorado. Drawing from existing data and peer-reviewed research, the assessment summarizes the key impacts in seven sectors: ecosystems, water, agriculture, energy, transportation, outdoor recreation and tourism, and public health. It also details current adaptive capacity and potential strategies in those sectors to meet future climate challenges - providing a background for preparedness planning.
