City of Santa Cruz Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment

The City of Santa Cruz, California produced this vulnerability assessment in 2011 as a first step in developing a climate adaptation plan. The report aims to identify the climate impacts to which Santa Cruz is vulnerable, analyze the risks which these impacts pose, and recommend potential adaptation strategies to reduce the City's risk and exposure. The assessment was to serve as the basis for potential goals, objectives, and actions that will help the City build adaptive capacity. The report and process is intended to be dynamic and continue to incorporate improved understandings of climate science, local vulnerability, and new adaptation strategies.

City of Benicia, California Climate Change Vulnerability and Risk Summary Report

2015

The City of Benicia is a coastal community in the San Francisco Bay area of California. In April 2014, Benicia was awarded a California Coastal Conservancy Climate Ready Grant for $150,000 to conduct a climate change vulnerability assessment and to develop a climate adaptation plan. The Vulnerability and Risk Report was developed in partnership with ICF International and Placeworks, who examined climate change related vulnerabilities and risks in Benicia (primarily sea level rise, flooding and temperature changes).

Triangle Regional Resilience Partnership Resilience Assessment

November 2018

The Triangle Regional Resiliency Partnership (TRRP) is a joint project of municipalities and counties in the “Triangle Region” of North Carolina including the Town of Cary, Town of Chapel Hill, City of Durham, City of Raleigh, Durham County, and Orange County. The first project of the Partnership was a resiliency assessment of the area’s assets and risks - in partnership with the University of North Carolina Asheville’s National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center (NEMAC) and the Triangle J Council of Governments.

4th National Climate Assessment, Volume II: Impacts, Risks, and Adaptation in the United States

November 23, 2018

On November 23, 2018, the U. S. Global Change Research Program released Volume II of the Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4) entitled Impacts, Risks and Adaptation in the United States. NCA4 includes sixteen chapters focusing on national topics and specific sectors, nine chapters focusing on different regions of the country, and two chapters focusing on both mitigation (reducing greenhouse gas emissions) and adaptation responses to climate change. NCA4 concludes that: “ [o]bservations collected around the world provide significant, clear, and compelling evidence that global average temperature is much higher, and is rising more rapidly, than anything modern civilization has experienced, with widespread and growing impacts.

California State Route 37 Stewardship Study

February 2016

The University of California Davis Road Ecology Center undertook a stewardship study to assess the risk to California State Route 37 (SR 37) from sea-level rise.  SR 37 passes near San Francisco Bay, connecting Interstate 80 and Highway 101.  The road corridor and surrounding wetlands are threatened by sea-level rise and flooding. The road bed sits below sea level at its lowest elevation and is likely to experience erosion, flooding during storms, and inundation due to sea-level rise. The State Road 37 Stewardship Study (Study) included a stakeholder process and technical analyses to determine possible future solutions to reduce the vulnerability of the highway to climate impacts.

Plan for the 21st Century - New Orleans 2030 (City of New Orleans, Louisiana Master Plan)

August 12, 2010

New Orleans, Louisiana’s “Plan for the 21st Century,” also referred to as the Master Plan, is a City Charter-mandated planning framework for New Orleans’ physical, social, environmental, and economic future. Sponsored by the City Planning Commission, the Master Plan is New Orleans' primary policy and planning document, intended to guide the city’s growth for the next 20 years. The Master Plan has proposed climate adaptation related measures represented across many sectors, and contains a chapter dedicated to Green Infrastructure, and another to Resilience.

WSDOT Mukilteo Multimodal Ferry Terminal Environmental Impact Statement

June 2013

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) considered sea-level rise as a factor in early design and environmental review for the Mukilteo Multimodal Terminal Project (“Project”). The Project will develop a new terminal for the Mukilteo/Clinton Ferry, which provides transportation between Whidbey Island and the Seattle metropolitan area. In the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Project, WSDOT acknowledged that changing climate would impact the function and operations of Multimodal Project over the 50 to 100 year lifespan of the facility.

Broward County, Florida Comprehensive Plan - Climate Change Element

February 12, 2013

The Broward County Climate Change Element contains policies that are an extension of the 126 recommendations detailed in “Broward’s Climate Change Action Plan - Addressing our Changing Climate,” as developed by the Broward County Climate Change Task Force in 2010. The Broward County Climate Change Element provisions passed in February 2013 - designed to provide a framework for integrating the economic, environmental, and social factors of climate change for this coastal county of Southeast Florida.

Marin County Climate Action Plan (2015 Update)

July 2015

The 2015 Marin County, California Climate Action Plan (CAP) updates the 2006 Marin County Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan. The majority of the plan focuses on mitigation, providing an update of GHG emissions in 2012, forecasts of emissions for 2020, and an assessment of actions that the County will take to further reduce emissions by 2020. In addition, Chapter 8 focuses on adaptation, providing an overview of Marin’s expected climate risks, a summary of actions-to-date, and recommended next steps.
