This Environmental Action Plan (EAP) was developed by Eco-City Alexandria, a strategic collaborative planning process designed by the City of Alexandria, Virginia, in partnership with Virginia Tech's Department of Urban Affairs and Planning. The EAP merges short-term goals and action steps (FY-2009-2011) approved by the City Council in January 2009, with new mid- and long-range goals and actions (2012-2030).

Greenworks Philadelphia was launched by Mayor Michael Nutter in 2009, and serves as the City of Philadelphia’s first comprehensive sustainability plan. The New Hampshire Climate Change Policy Task Force released its Climate Action Plan in March 2009, addressing both mitigation and adaptation. In this report, 67 recommended actions are organized within 10 strategies, of which one strategy is to "Plan for how to address existing and potential climate change impacts."

Somerset County obtained a grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to assess the County’s vulnerability to sea-level rise and to review and develop workable revisions to County plans, development codes, and regulations to mitigate the identified impacts. The department created this guidance document for the County.

This Coastal Regional Sediment Management Plan identifies four strategies to reduce coastal erosion along southern Monterey Bay in California. One of these strategies involves beach nourishment to protect critical infrastructure, including sections of California Highway 1.

The Toronto City Council unanimously approved a comprehensive strategy to respond to climate change, known as the "Climate Change, Clean Air and Sustainable Energy Action Plan" in 2007. The development and establishment of a climate change adaptation strategy is one of the actions contained in the Plan. As such, this report provides a framework designed to help members of the public and other stakeholders engage in the process of formulating and implementing a climate change adaptation strategy for Toronto.
