Minnesota State Hazard Mitigation Plan 2019 - Including Recommended Actions for Climate Change Adaptation

March 18, 2019

Minnesota’s 2019 State All-Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) includes recommended actions for climate adaptation for the first time in the state’s hazard mitigation planning process. Developed in collaboration with the Interagency Climate Adaptation Team (ICAT), the HMP includes priority adaptation needs for state government from the ICAT 2017 Report - Adapting to Climate Change in Minnesota. The HMP provides assessments of hazard risk, reviews current state and local hazard mitigation and climate adaptation capacity and programs, and includes climate adaptation strategies for Minnesota’s state agencies and programs.

Anchorage, Alaska Climate Action Plan

May 21, 2019

Anchorage, Alaska’s Climate Action Plan offers both climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies that support a vision for resilience and 80% less greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Climate adaptation planning is focused on emergency preparedness, watershed, urban forest and public health measures. Social equity and inclusion of indigenous communities impacts and needs are also prioritized, with Alaskan Native values incorporated throughout the plan.

The Climate Resilience Action Plan for Austin, Texas provides an assessment of extreme weather impacts to City-owned assets and operations, and outlines strategies for the City of Austin’s long-range planning in response to current and projected climate change. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Resilience Strategy

March 2017

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released its Resilience Strategy in March 2017 to provide a holistic strategy for helping the city to manage challenges from a changing environment, globalization, and urbanization. The Strategy sets goals, objectives, and action organized around a “P4” community-centered framework addressing resilience in terms of People, Place, Planet, and Performance.  The Strategy is intended to be a blueprint to help the city prepare for resilience challenges by helping the city improve coordination among government and non-governmental organizations, improve budgeting and capital coordination citywide, ensure the institutionalization of resilience practices, and increase resident engagement and empowerment. Development of this plan was supported by the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities initiative.

Fourth Regional Plan for NY-NJ-CT metro region

November 2017

The Regional Plan Association prepared this strategic plan for the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan area. The fourth plan for the region is a long-term strategy that focuses on four core values of equity, prosperity, health, and sustainability. The plan identifies financing for new resilient infrastructure, expands the transit network, builds more green infrastructure for climate adaptation, and invests in communities economic growth and sustainability.

Seattle’s overarching climate resilience vision is to reduce emissions and prepare for climate-related impacts while building vibrant neighborhoods, fostering economic prosperity, and enhancing equity. The strategy considers climate change’s impacts on many of Seattle’s public sectors, and suggests strategies for the city to reduce or eliminate those impacts in each sector.

Climate Ready DC: The District of Columbia’s Plan to Adapt to a Changing Climate

Resilient Edgemere, New York City, Community Plan

2017

The Resilient Edgemere Community Plan is a long term plan for social and climate resilience for the coastal community of Edgemere in New York City (NYC), New York. After Hurricane Sandy, the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development launched the Resilient Edgemere Community Planning Initiative in 2015. Edgemere is a low-lying waterfront community located on a barrier island (the Rockaways) that continues to recover from Sandy, while increasingly vulnerable to climate change impacts such as intensified coastal storms and sea-level rise.

Climate Ready Boston Final Report (2016)

Climate Ready Boston is an initiative to enhance near- and long-term climate change preparedness and resiliency in Boston, Massachusetts. The comprehensive 400-page final report from the initiative uses updated climate projections to predict how climate change will impact Boston, and details the findings on vulnerable populations, buildings, infrastructure, the shoreline, and the economy. The report also provides an extensive analysis of climate resilience initiatives and a roadmap for strategic implementation.
