New Hampshire’s Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) Project

New Hampshire’s Department of Environmental Services administers the Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) project which is intended to provide municipalities along the Great Bay with the resources they need to assess sea level rise and storm surge flooding. The Great Bay communities that have been assessed include: Rollinsford, Dover, Madbury, Durham, Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter, Stratham, Greenland, and Newington. This project is funded through the Coastal Zone Management Act by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

National Climate Assessment

May 6, 2014

The U. S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) has a legal mandate to conduct a National Climate Assessment (NCA) every four years, the third and most recent of which was released in May 2014. Summarizing current and future climate change impacts across the nation, the NCA is the most comprehensive assessment of climate change impacts ever conducted in the U. S.   The new report is presented on a highly interactive website, with a stunning visual presentation, intended to fully engage the general public along with decision-makers.

NOAA Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC)

The Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), maintained by NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory, provides two datasets on precipitation. First is the monitoring product for the period 1986 to present, based on quality-controlled data from 7,000 stations. The second is the Full Data Product for the period 1951 to 2004, based on quality-controlled data from a larger number of stations (up to 43,000) with irregular coverage in time. This product is optimized for best spatial coverage and use for water budget studies.

2017

My RainReady is a free, online tool that helps building owners diagnose the flooding risks of single-family homes and small apartment buildings, and find the best means of reducing the risk of damage from urban flooding.  After the user answers a series of guided questions, My RainReady provides a tailored flood mitigation and preparedness measures, such as landscaping and construction improvements. My RainReady provides a customized report that suggests a mix of home maintenance and DIY improvements, landscaping and construction options, and flood preparedness actions.

Maryland Coastal Atlas

The Coastal Atlas is an online mapping and planning tool that allows state and local decision-makers to visually analyze and explore data for coastal and ocean planning activities. The site provides shoreline mapping data for shoreline and flood planning in Maryland. The maps are based on erosion, storm inundation and sea level rise data developed from fifty years of observations, and display future shoreline positions up to fifty years in the future. The data available through the Coastal Atlas includes physical characteristics, human uses and ecological resources.

Living Shorelines Academy

November 2016

The Living Shoreline Academy is an interactive website that provides a range of tools for property owners, contractors, and state and local governments about how to design, build, permit, and maintain living shorelines to mitigate erosion on shoreline property.  "Living shorelines" use natural features combined with placement of stone or other small structures to provide shoreline protection that maintains and enhances important coastal ecosystem functions.  Living shorelines are a strategy that many states and communities are considering for enhancing coastal resilience to sea-level rise and the impacts of climate change.

Landsat Project

As a joint initiative between the U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) and NASA, the Landsat Project provides repetitive acquisition of high resolution multispectral data of the Earth's surface on a global basis. The data from the Landsat spacecraft constitute the longest record of the Earth's continental surfaces as seen from space.   Today's use of Landsat data has evolved, becoming not only a fundamental data source for addressing basic science questions but also has come into its own as a valuable resource for decision makers in such diverse fields such as agriculture, forestry, land use, water resources and natural resource exploration.

International Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Database

Initiated by the American Society of Civil Engineers and the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1996 and now led by the Water Research Foundation since 2004, the International Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) Database contains a growing collection of BMP studies with metadata on site conditions, design parameters, and stormwater monitoring results. The database features hundreds of BMP studies, performance analysis methods and results, tools for performance studies and reporting, monitoring guidance, and other study-related publications.

Implications of 21st Century Climate Change for the Hydrology of Washington State

2009

This report is part 1 of Chapter 3 of the Washington Climate Change Impacts Assessment (see separate entry), focusing on water resource impacts for the state. Parts 2 and 3 of this chapter focus on the Puget Sound and the Yakima River Basin respectively. Based on results from 39 global simulations performed for the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR4) projections, this report presents downscaled model findings and the implications on the hydrology of the Pacific Northwest.
