American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP)
The American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP) brings together the leading professionals from a variety of sectors working to increase climate resilience across the U.S.
ASAP's vision is that of a "resilient nation that is able to plan, prepare, and adapt to the impacts of global climate change through the infusion of expertise, innovation, and information developed by a robust and respected professional workforce of practitioners and researchers."
To achieve this vision, ASAP has gathered many of the nation’s leading climate adaptation practitioners who have identified the need to build professional standing around this vitally important challenge. First and foremost, the society seeks to coalesce, establish, and grow a professional community. It is itself an indicator of, and place of incubation for, the growing adaptive capacity of the U.S. Further, ASAP participants have identified a critical agenda for specific actions needed to consolidate efforts across a diffuse, but emergent profession. These agenda items represent the facets of this emergent profession as much as they represent the primary challenges that must be overcome to fully prepare the nation for an increasingly volatile climate regime.
The American Society of Adaptation Professionals is supported by the Institute for Sustainable Communities with funding from the Kresge Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation.
