Center for Biological Diversity
The Center for Biological Diversity's mission is to work through science, law and creative media to secure a future for all species, great or small, on the brink of extinction. The Center's territory for the protection of species extends throughout the US, Pacific and Atlantic oceans and international regions as remote as the North and South poles. Hundreds of species have gained protection as a result of the Center's petitions, lawsuits, policy advocacy, and outreach to media. They have a full-time staff of dozens of prominent environmental lawyers and scientists who work exclusively on their campaigns to save species and their habitats. As 93 percent of their lawsuits have resulted in favorable outcomes - the Center has developed a unique negotiating position with both government agencies and private corporations, enabling them, at times, to secure broad protections for species and habitat without the threat of litigation.
The Center for Biological Diversity announced in February, 2009 the launch of its San Francisco-based Climate Law Institute and the dedication of $17 million to fight global warming over the next five years. This non-profit's website is also an excellent portal for any current climate legislation concerning the environment or wildlife, and many related publications.
