Chicago Wilderness Alliance
Chicago Wilderness is a regional alliance that connects people and nature. There are more than 250 organizations involved that work together to restore local nature and improve the quality of life, by protecting the lands and waters of the region. Their four key initiatives are to restore the health of local nature, green infrastructure, combat climate change, and leave no child inside. The alliance is committed to using science and emerging knowledge, as well as a collaborative approach to conservation. The members of Chicago Wilderness include local, state and federal agencies, large conservation organizations, cultural and education institutions, volunteer groups, municipalities, corporations, and faith-based groups.
On June 25, 2010, the Chicago Wilderness alliance released its Climate Action Plan for Nature. It identifies actions related to mitigation, adaptation and increased public awareness as key strategies in fighting climate change, and addresses the significant role of, and threats to, natural area conservation in the face of this phenomenon.
