GPI provides tools, analysis, and other technical assistance for local governments and cities to plan for and create more sustainable and resilient communities. Sustainability and resilience planning services provided by GPI include:
- Comprehensive planning
- Climate action planning
- Energy planning
- Solar planning, zoning, and permitting
In the past, GPI has assisted cities in incorporating resilience into comprehensive plans and programs, such as Minnesota Greenstep Cities.
From 2010 – 2012 GPI facilitated a network of sustainable community practitioners from Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin - and are now collaborating with leaders from Sustainable Jersey to identify the best way to expand this collaboration nationwide.
The group shares resources, best practices, evaluation results, and the most effective technical assistance and program models. Participants include state agencies, University Extension, USDA Rural Development, non-profit technical assistance providers, and community sustainability coordinators and local elected officials.
