Maryland Commission on Climate Change

On April 20, 2007, Governor Martin O'Malley signed Executive Order 01.01.2007.07 establishing the Maryland Climate Change Commission (MCCC) charged with collectively developing an action plan to address the causes of climate change, prepare for the likely consequences and impacts of climate change to Maryland, and establish firm benchmarks and timetables for implementing the Commission's recommendations. The Commission included members representing academia, business, industry, environmental groups and many levels of government. It was staffed jointly by the Maryland Department of the Environment and Department of Natural Resources in coordination with other state agencies. The MCCC, with input from three working groups, considered, evaluated, and compiled a multi-sector set of recommended policy options and presented them to the Governor. The full MCCC comprised a diverse group of stakeholders who brought broad perspective and expertise to the topic of climate change in Maryland. Members represented: energy, manufacturing, agriculture, forestry, tourism and recreation, non-governmental organizations, academia, and state and local government. The MCCC's last report, Maryland Climate Action Plan, was released August 27, 2008.
