Puget Sound Climate Preparedness Collaborative
The Puget Sound Climate Preparedness Collaborative (PSCPC) is a network composed of local and tribal governments, regional agencies, and organizations in the Puget Sound region of Washington, United States. The Collaborative creates a forum for peer learning around climate preparedness solutions, recognizing that they can use limited resources more effectively by collaborating at a regional scale.
The PSCPC was officially launched in 2017 in order to accomplish a wide variety of goals, such as:
- connecting practitioners and member organizations across the region to understand the region’s changing climate, as well as improving access to climate preparedness tools;
- empowering regional practitioners through workshops and other events;
- collaborating with local communities to better understand how climate change is affecting the health, safety, and economy of the residents;
- improving the accessibility of reliable climate change information to the residents of the Puget Sound region;
- identifying opportunities for regional research projects; and
- ensuring that the efforts to address climate change advance social and racial equity.
The collaborative developed a strategic plan in 2019 laying out three overarching goals to help achieve their vision of a more resilient and climate-prepared region. For example, the Collaborative aims to be “a catalyst for advancing preparedness policy and action across jurisdictions” by identifying opportunities for policy alignment and legislative advocacy and by tracking regional priorities (Goal 3). The collaborative highlights a range of capacity-building resources on its website to support members, such as planning tools, climate equity resources and tools, climate data and information, case studies, and more.
The PSCPC is guided by a Steering Committee and has received funding from the Kresge Foundation and the Bullitt Foundation.
