The Wilderness Society
The Wilderness Society is a leading conservation organization working to protect the nation's public lands, the 635 million acres collectively owned by the American people and managed by our government. Since its founding in 1935, The Society has led the effort to permanently protect as designated Wilderness nearly 110 million acres in 44 states. They work strategically and collaboratively with land managers, decision makers, and other interested citizens to find common-ground solutions.
The Wilderness Society has made it a top priority to protect public lands and wildlife from the effects of climate change and to increase the role of those lands in fighting global warming. Their advocacy, policy, communications, and scientific research staff are working on reducing greenhouse gasses, leading efforts to fund natural resource adaption and manage lands for resiliency, increasing the role of wild lands, educating and coalition building.
