EPA Region 5 Water Quality Cooperative Agreements (66.463 grants)
Administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these grants are designed to help states, Indian tribes, interstate agencies, and other public or nonprofit organizations address water pollution. Grant recipients develop, implement, and demonstrate innovative approaches relating to the causes, effects, extent, reduction, and elimination of water pollution.
The grants' funding priorities include, but are not limited to: watershed approaches for solutions to wet weather activities (i.e., combined sewer overflow, sanitary sewer overflows, and storm water discharge); pretreatment and biosolids (sludge) program activities, decentralized systems; and alternative ways to enhance or measure the effectiveness of point source programs. Trading, water efficiency, asset management, and sustainable infrastructure are also areas of consideration.
EPA Region 5 is soliciting proposals for the Water Quality Cooperative Agreements program for projects in Region 5, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The purpose of this assistance program is to provide funding for unique and innovative projects that address the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) Permits Program. Specifically, Region 5 is seeking unique and innovative proposals for projects to be conducted in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin that will advance NPDES program strategies to:
- decrease costs for wastewater treatment through asset management and energy efficiency;
- using green infrastructure to control storm water and reduce impacts of wet weather flows;
- create incentives for projects that include sustainable infrastructure elements; and
- increase public awareness of the full cost of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems.
