Second Nature Climate Leadership Network

Second Nature, a national nonprofit that seeks to "accelerate climate action in, and through, higher education" has established a Climate Leadership Network that involves more than 600 colleges and universities in every state and the District of Columbia who have committed to take progressive action on climate change, and to prepare students through related research and education.

The Presidents’ Climate Leadership Commitments program was launched in 2015, to further grow the Network’s goals and impact. As described by Second Nature, “these Commitments provide a platform to develop guidance and support for campuses in creating community partnerships, assessing resilience, prioritizing actions to increase capacity and reduce vulnerabilities, and creating a resilience plan.” University presidents agree to commitments which include a Carbon Commitment (focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions), a Resilience Commitment (focused on climate adaptation and building community capacity), and a Climate Commitment that integrates both.

To date, there are over 100 Colleges and Universities nationwide that have signed the Presidents’ Climate or Resilience Commitment. These schools are working with their local communities to increase climate change preparedness and adaptation.
